AFL Club
St Kilda
Peoples thoughts on the VFL as it stands right now. We have just completed the first week of finals and seen team's take place that look nothing like the teams that won their way into a final. The AFL team's treat these feeder teams with contempt. North left Werribee with a team stripped of all but a couple of AFL players. StKilda have withdrawn numerous players and teams like Box Hill and Western Bulldogs can still flood the team with AFL listed players.

Does this competition still have any relevance other than to provide match practice for AFL teams?

The competition does - the teams aligned with AFL clubs don't. Unfortunate, but a fact of life these days.

the afl feeder teams definitely disrespect the vfl. Great option for the AFL clubs though.

In the end a VFL flag is meaningless now though.

it's terrific for development. but the silverware means little

Most of the time the AFL teams pull there young stars out. It would piss me off if I played all year then come finals time half my team was pulled out.

people i've spoken too have been in that situation and it's supposed to be super irritating. Should be good for st kilda's development over the finals series. No excuses but to play in a granny

If that was correct why have they packed most of the blokes away for the year?

Not many care about the VFL anymore. From a fan's perspective, the first goal of the VFL team should be development of the players for the AFL. If that means losses then so be it.

We will see it get worse with the resting of players such as North did last week. What side in any comp has 10 players pulled out of it starting line up for a final?

So the Bulldogs & Hawks regularly show respect and value their feeder clubs but some clubs don't care.

Hawthorn are still in the finals so there players need to keep playing dont they? Although they played Rioli for a half last year on the GF.
