Is there a club that handles adversity worse than the West Coast Eagles?

Mentally fragile, always play the victim, piss weak footy club. They’ve got that deeply entrenched into their psyche, from the coach and the players down to their supporters. Have never heard a supporter base whinge how hard they have it. The coach is just as bad. One of the few clubs that got to play home games in front of crowds last season and they still found it all too hard. Pathetic.

Something really weird about that state. Has anyone ever read The West Australian? They’re openly bias about West Coast and Fremantle. It’s really odd. It’s like they need to be pandered to. Even their journos have developed a victim complex.

That sounds like Its copied from Richmond and the Victorian media up to 2017.

Except for the players, supporter base and coach whingeing. Thats still going on.
The on field performance overrides all of that. Elite.

You really think thats different to any other place?

Being from Tassie, having lived a few years in each of Qld, NSW & Vic I see/saw so much 'the victim' mentality everywhere.

Not every one, all the time, but a lot of us over time feel hard done by, about sport & other things.

Qld always felt hard done by in Rugby league. Used by NSW. Western Sydney RL clubs felt the same about inner city/Eastern suburbs clubs.

Same here in a smaller way. Tassie used by the VFL, the North West clubs always moaning about something in the state league. 'Run from Hobart' etc etc etc!!

Just on BF, its always the Umpires fault!!

Everything seems to have gone wrong since the return of Willie Rioli. Long bow I know but something is seriously wrong within the player group. Maybe not all agree with the free pass he received for drug trafficking.

West Coast is to some extent a victim of rule changes. Where previously they forced the opposition to kick the ball in the air to their battery of tall defenders, the Hocking rules that promote short, uncontested footy have allowed sides to pick them apart.

After being top 7 for seven consecutive seasons, the Eagles are 14th for defence in 2021, with only North, Adelaide, Hawthorn and Carlton behind them.

There are probably other factors at play also.

As apposed to Chris Scott who can't stop telling anyone who will listen how difficult Geelong circumstances have been this year and how well the have dealt with it. Just make sure you note that not everyone has had to deal with the tough circumstances Geelong have dealt with.
Plus his hair is just obnoxious, and has not seen the tender touch of an appropriate conditioner for at least a month! Lolz

Sad to see such talent crumble due to fragility.

Especially when in 2018 they won with key players out and 5 goals down in the 1st 15 min of the GF.

Then they had grit and determination. Shadow of that former team.

Looks like the coach and the predictable game plan has lost the confidence of the playing group.

The reality is they won a lucky flag (still counts) and weren’t ever really more than a 4th-5th standard side, now a lot of those players are out of their prime/injury prone and they have failed to add enough young talent.

All the talk of softness and mental weakness is ignoring the fact they aren’t that great anymore.

Maybe the video of the irreverent misadventures of a rubber chicken with a tendency for sexual deviancy will cheer the players up?

These games and threads are as close to a premiership win for Freo supporters we all know.;):)

So go ahead and enjoy. You deserve that at least. Just a shame your team is incapable to provide you the same enjoyment.

My team is an abject failure, but that doesn't mean I can't shine light on the ridiculous nature of some aspects of the Eagles' story!

We embarrassed ourselves against Geelong, and had a couple of lucky wins against teams that weren’t travelling very well themselves, before Willie returned.

Our only solid win was against port, it turned out to be an anomaly.
