Watts is into his 6th season, Trengove his 5th. Both have their strengths but neither are anywhere near the level you'd expect (or at least hope) of a top pick.

pretty sure all of D. Gaspar, A. Rocca, A. Heuskes, S. Grant, P. Licuria and T. Cook ended up walking/traded for picks and wound up having pretty successful careers - so the drafting wasn't too bad really - would have to see what the Swans received in those trades to properly evaluate things imo ..

at worst you'd say the Swans development and/or player retention were more to blame for those players not kicking on at their original club, as they could obviously play.

Not surprising when you consider how expensive it is to live in sydney. Almost as if they need some sort of allowance to retain players. Wonder if the league would consider such a proposal?

Yeah it was probably more of a comment on what Sydney got out of the players they drafted. Probably get the "true" value by researching what they got back in trades.

2006 - Brown (16) - Disappointment, masked by picking Mackenzie at 29. LOSS

Not sure why you bothered "me too"ing WCE's first round picks, we've been incredibly lucky over the years and usually drafted pretty well in comparison to other clubs with our first picks.

Not to mention - Sheppard has been much better this year. Nowhere near what i'd call a 'LOSS'.
And why mention Stinga in 2004? Trading for an established/developed player as opposed to drafting a young, pre-development untried player.. not even close to the same thing.
Brown certainly isn't a LOSS, he's at the minimum a competent player.
Newman is a LOSS cos he's in jail? Nope, not yet.
