Is this 2014 repeating! !??

I've always thought this season had more of a 2006 feel about it from the outset, so, how about we think of this as season 2006, except with a four loss run instead of the three against St.Kilda, Freo & Richmond (by all rights should've been a loss to West Coast the week after given ladder positions, but didn't).

We'll finish 5th and play Bulldogs again.

And probably won't get torn a new arseh*le there.

Dale Thomas won't take a Specky either.

We are officially outside the 8 this weekend, and will probably slide to 11th if we lose to the bulldogs next weekend.

(North > Brisbane)

(Geelong > GWS)

After that we have Carlton Melbourne and Sydney.. you'd hope we go 2-1 from that, which likely puts us around 9th on the ladder.

The next 3 is Richmond Geelong and Essendon. Likely 1-2 there and a a finish around 10th-11th.

Beat the Bulldogs this weekend and things look a fair bit brighter though...

Or expressed another way ...

... If we win our games against Carlton, Melbourne and Essendon ...

... And we stay competitive in all games to maintain our good percentage ...

... And given that Geelong and Adelaide are both there-abouts on the ladder, but have shared points ...

... Then if we win one of Bulldogs, Sydney, Richmond or Geelong then there's a good chance we play finals.

If we lose to the Doggies they will be 2 games ahead of us and very likely staying above us.

North have an extremely easy run home and sit equal with us, likely they will finish above us. If we went 4-3 in the last 7 games we would have to hope none of GWS Adelaide or Geelong have a strong finish to the season, or even one that's equal to ours. If 1 of the three do then there is only 1 spot in the finals up for grabs.

The Doggies game is probably the hardest to predict out of all remaining matches, so things will be a lot clearer this time next week. If we lose I doubt we play finals, if we win we should get 7th or 8th.

Both North and us play Carlton, Melbourne, Richmond and Bulldogs.

Additionally North play Brisbane, St Kilda, and Dockers.

Additionally we play Essendon, Geelong and Swans.

Not really that much in it, is there?

Next 3 games are against average opponents. I think that will tell us more than our previous 3 weeks which were against teams ahead of us in development.

If we lose the next few games, then it is history repeating.

But the true supporters know we arent quite at hawthorn or freo level, but we should be ahead of doggies and carlton etc.
Think we are at Doggies level not ahead probably level with NM and Geelong.
Of the four two should make it.

Hopefully we will

The efforts of the three prior games was going to take its toll eventually, and we looked pretty lifeless against the Eagles. Hopefully with that out of the system we can get back to winning some games and cementing a finals place. It may be more difficult if Cloke isn't available - he's frustrating, but look how terrible our forward line is when he's not there!

We will be lucky to make the 8 from here.

Watching the last 2 weeks there are a few players starting to look fatigued especially in the last quarter.

Missing these players Cloke, Elliott, Adams, Reid, Goldsack, Broomhead, Sinclair, Freeman, Ramsay, Macaffer, Thomas and Keeffe wont make it any easier either.

If we miss the finals this season with an easier draw it'll be worse than last year IMO.

While injuries are starting to mount to some of our key players it's not quite yet at the level of last season and we've made gains in our squad overall.

The reality is heading into round 17 we've only defeated 1 side currently within the top 8.

After a tough month we need to show we aren't just flat track bullies and beat another.

The dogs won 7 games last year and lost there captain and coach.

They have more excuses than us.

We need to treat this week like an elimination final and just get the win we should.

Jon faine on 774 just said that cloke was out for the season?!is that right?

Much different vibe about it this year, promising signs from a young side with a few kids showing a bit and a few still to come. Nothing like finals for a sides development and that's still a genuine possibility but there's a few challenges ahead before that happens. A lot to look forward to.

Given our history with calf injuries anything is possible.

Doubt he's been publicly ruled out for the year already but should finals look unlikely in a month he might well be put on ice for the remainder of the season.

With a calf he'd be 4 weeks out minimum wouldn't he?

This weekend is huge for our season, beat the dogs and we will be back on track with Melbourne and Carlton in the next 2 weeks.
Lose and it'll be tough to make the 8, you just can't drop 5 games in a row at this time of year.
If we can sneak into the 8 it will be so important to the development of this group

I heard that too, but nothing in the press so far.

Its looking like it. The thing is, our draw is easier this year, our injuries are less this year, yet here we are.

Not good. Bulldogs will be 5 losses in a row. Did we lose 5 in a row at any stage last year? I don't think we did.

Only differences are:

1. We are not getting smashed by the best teams (Hawks, Freo, etc).

2. De Goey

3. Darcy Moore has just given us a little glimmer of hope that days in the post-Cloke era might not be so bad.
