Like others have pointed out it is a far broader societal issue. That obese child will become an obese adult and really on Medicare to keep them alive. Why should I be supporting these disgusting lazy slobs with my tax dollars?

You shouldn't be. I'm sure Australians would be fine with you buying a one way ticket to the Cayman Islands or something.

In fact, I reckon a deportation program for anybody who uses the phrase "my tax dollars" could really take off.

I knew I'd read about Chrissie Swan before.

http://www.mamamia.com.au/parenting/chrissie-swan-parenting-overweight-kids/

Now not that it’s ANY of our business but is Chrissie doing something about Leo’s weight? Of course. The article goes on to say that Chrissie has since taken her little boy to a paediatric dietician and that the issue wasn’t that Leo was eating garbage food but that he was eating far too much healthy food (so, for example, Chrissie has had to learn portion sizes for fruit and that four bananas a day isn’t healthy.) Leo is now on the path to more appropriate meal sizes and healthy eating.

So it's not genetic for her son, it's bad portion control and poor choices.

Lol
Mcdonalds is food now is it?.
****en stupid.
It's shit, the only reason a mcdonalds burger isn't classed as confectionary is the pickle!.
It's ******* candy for the mind numbed morons of the world.
Let the fat deluded drain the taxpayers ey?.

Only the truly mind numbed and deluded of the world - of which I'm gathering you're one - could truly rant about the fat being the drain on taxpayers.

Keep squawking what uncle Tone and Rupert tell you.

Hmmm, thinking you're mixing some ideologies there but ok. Obesity and the diseases it precursors are lifestyle choices. I'm equally frustrated that people who choose to smoke and get lung cancer are supported with government funds. There are so many more valuable places that money could be spent, rather than on those who choose to put their lives at risk.

You left off those who drink alcohol

You left off those who drink alcohol
Because I'm one of them! But yes, if I have an alcohol related disease later in life and the fattos and smokers weren't being supported I'd have to wear it.

I understand the cost of healthcare, but that somebody would choose one single issue within that - overweight people - and use it to rant about their tax is ridiculous.

It's points to a need to put people down, and the overweight are the target, probably because the attacker isn't overweight, so he feels safe doing so.

If we were truly worried about tax - which we're not - we'd be burning cities down protesting about the tax dodging ways of the wealthy and corporations. The amount of revenue that would be raised by the govt if they were to close their tax loopholes is astronomical.

Instead we have the mass media always attacking the lower classes - you know, "welfare cheats", and these selfish fat people - as if their lifestyles cost anything more than a drop in the Pacific in comparison. And the morally outraged follow along nodding their heads and joining in. Look at this fat ****in 6 year old... let's have a gawk at him and point our fingers.

And then to hear one of these halfwits talking - presumably with a straight face - about the "deluded, mind numbed" fatties... FFS. That'll do.

The minute anybody makes this an economic argument they lose all credibility. It's waaaay down the list of "drainers".

I give zero ****s about tax. I'm one of the least money hungry people you would ever meet. I'd happily continue paying that same amount of tax, or more, and see it used to help people who didn't make lifestyle decisions to **** their lives.

Even worse - we simply need to collect tax that is owed to us, let alone start worrying about loopholes (gummitn cleverly cutting 25% of ATO staff is making things worse).

As a social cost obesity is a huge problem in Australian society and equating everything simply to economics does little to change the impact unhealthy lifestyles and being in the top 3 obsess countries on the planet has on us as a country.

I think the size of your waist might be the least of your problems tbh.

Well he barracks for Carlton and is married to a New Zealander, but at least he can buy pants from a regular store.

True.
Solving the complex problem of fabric choices for my new banquette dining area is far greater to me than watching this country become a pack of lard arses.
Funnily enough,my tax return this year will pay for it.
Happy dining,happy days!!.

Hey, I've been wondering about this for a while now so I'll put the question out there. Is allowing your child to become obese (unless there are medical reasons) child abuse? The reason I'm asking is because I saw the size of Chrissie Swan's son and actually felt sorry for him. The poor kid is only 6 and yet has become the size of a semi trailer. He is obviously not old enough to understand the many ramifications that result from being obese and will only get bigger as he gets older, as his mother constantly deflects and justifies obesity. On top of that, it is setting him up to be bullied at school, as kids can be cruel. I can remember fat kids at my school copping it big time. Obviously some kids will be chubby and lose the fat, but there are kids you see and think "That's not just puppy fat, that's plain obese".

Do you think that allowing a child to become obese (unless they have medical condition's that affect their weight) is child abuse? I'm not a parent, so I can't really comment from their perspective, but looking back I would have hated being obese. I'm glad I was encouraged to play sport and eat healthily. I'd like to hear all perspectives on this. I think it could very well be, as young kids aren't old enough to understand the long term consequences of sustained obesity.

I see some of these kids and I just feel sad for them

What's your view?

Man, since r/fatpeoplehate went down, these thinspiration ******s have taken over the internet. The amount of whining and carrying on they do, you'd think they were sexually repressed fat people with nothing better to do with their time...
