Opinion Is this rock bottom?

Rock bottom would have been where we had no contingency plan in place, fortunately from an administrative perspective we turned the corner recently, there are quality people in key places now to deal with the issues coming our way,

Far from ideal but orders of magnitude better than when Shawy needed time out.

Currently North is like the bloke that runs from the wolf but bumps into a bear.
This would be a good week for a true Shinboner performance from the boys.
I’d rather not see us come out and win.

It’s complete bullshit from the players to get themselves up for every single time a coach is either moved on/just starts. Get yourself up and about every week you pack of squibs.

This isn't rock bottom despite everything saying otherwise.

Number one priority is Clarko needs to look after his mental health. So the fact that he's recognised this and taking a break is a very good thing. It's hard enough coaching an AFL club as it is can't even begin to imagine how much more difficult it would be with the Hawthorn racism issue hanging over his head.

We have very good people at the club now it's not like when Scotts & Nobles left and we had to rely on inexperienced Assistant Coaches. Ratts is a very good coach in his own right and will be a clam head and a steady hand. Sonja Hood, Jen Watts, Todd Viney etc. are exceptional people they will ensure the club doesn't implode.

The Hawthorn racism issue will be resolved at some point, Clarko will be exonerated and he'll come back to the club relieved, refreshed and reinvigorated.

Does it put our rebuild back, of course it does, regardless of who is coach we've probably only got a couple more wins in us (if we're lucky) so let's focus on development; learn the systems, stick to the structure, play the kids. Take the 3 best kids in the draft (assuming McKay leaves).

Bring on 2024.

Well there surely can't be further to go from here?

And this is the lowest we have hit.

Ok.

I've questioned some of his football output but this might be Luke McDonald's time to shine. It's probably not about Olympic training standards now. We need loud, strong voices to bring the group together.

Guys like Larkey, McDonald, Ziebell, Corr, Logue, Shiels, Simpkin, Goldstein, Hall - the guys who look to be confident in their ability to stand up and communicate a position- are imo who we need to double down and drive morale.

We'll also learn about the character of our list this year. This is playing out as another torrid year.

We'll soon see who's sticking around in a statement of "I'm part of this" and who spins up a(an?) euphemism to get out the door.

Main hope is for us to button down the hatches and compete now. Nothing more.

There are similarities between what happened this morning and what happened to Shaw at the end of 2020.

The difference in how each situation was handled goes to show that we are not at rock bottom. I'm confident that we haven't seen the last of Clarkson. Coaching is an incredibly stressful job and there's no shame that the added stress of the investigation was too much for him. The club has handled this well and it's a sign of how far we've come.

Ben Buckley, Ben Amarfio, David Noble, Brad Scott, and Cam Joyce are perhaps the five men who got their shovels the dirtiest digging this hole that we're in. We're still deep enough that we can't see the light, but we're definitely not at rock bottom.

I hate to sound insensitive.
But this kinda helps us in terms of the AFL finally coming to the party.
Seasons over. A lot of this falls on them. Can’t wait to see how they respond

I always used to feel for non-footy people who dreaded Melbourne winters, but felt privileged as a passionate footy supporter that the ritual of following a team and going to the games meant that the winter months were something to look forward to. And while not always coming away from the game with a win there was comfort in the knowledge that “there’s always next week”! Unfortunately, the reassurance of that cliche no longer provides the sense of hope it always did.

Even before the Clarko announcement I have found myself in recent weeks saying things I never imagined saying:

- To my 9 year old daughter: “Feel free to barrack for a different team”. In a proud dad moment - she rebuffed the offer and said North’s her team and she’s sticking with us.

- To my mate after the Port Adelaide loss who I have been going to North games for 40 years: “I’m not sure I can watch this anymore and the next game I go to will be the one after our next win”.

And yet despite the above, I am planning to take my daughter to the footy on Saturday and catch up with my old mate because we love this footy club! Things are low, but as Todd Viney said in his presser today the ‘wheels will turn’, we just need to be more patient than we hoped for.

Forever North!!!
