Opinion Is this rock bottom?

Rebuilding where your celling is 9th is the worst place to be in the afl.
You think one or two extra players will make the top four, reality is losing one or two players means you’ll be bottom four.
They are us in 2019.

Not really going anywhere, wasted a lot of picks, traded too many away, loaded up on GWS rejects and then now they hate their coach + system. Their 'rebuild' had a lot of shortcuts taken to get the team 'hardened'.

They’re probably better off then us in 2019, they’ve got a seriously good spine but they’re going to have to make some tough calls on some fan favourites. They’ve got too many one way runners.

I think Eagles are a few metres below our rock bottom, that’s me looking over the edge fwiw, holding Gaffs ashen “Offer”

McGovern - 31yo, played less than 30 games over 3 seasons, on $1.1m per year, contract expires 2023
Shuey - nearly 33, played less than 30 games over 3 seasons, on $800k per year, expires 2023

NicNat - 33yo, played 0 games this year and 8 last, on $700k per year, expires 2024
Gaff - nearly 31, on $850k per year, expires 2024
Yeo - nearly 30, played less than 30 games in 4 seasons, on $800k per year, contract expires end of 2024

Kelly - nearly 29, on $850k per year, expires end of 2025
Darling - nearly 31, on $850k per year, expires end of 2025

For a team sitting at 18th on 55%, that's quite a remarkable set of numbers.

I think I was referring to Carlton in the post but those stats are pretty amazing.
So much money tied up in injured players. If they can have a decent run at it next year, they’ll end up top four again with that list.

Doh! Stupidly contextualised your post from those before and after it, instead of the one you were responding to.

Similar criticism probably applies to the Blues though.

Yeah it’s that death spiral mid table finish that I think west coast are avoiding like the plague.
Out of all the teams at the bottom of the ladder, who have the ability to strategise years in advance it’s the eagles.

Hurn is 35, must be on something big $
Cripps is 31, slightly less $

They'll have money to spend for New players from next year

You could put the Top Gear classic quote that goes '...still, could be worse' when talking about the Eagles. They are not at rock bottom, they are still going through the core. They are going through a very rough patch and we contributed to it a little (Gaff $$$) lol. That is the biggest bullet we've dodged. Holy shit.

All of those seasons of chasing ghosts

What would any of them have achieved for the Club?

Nothing; we should only ever do that again if we ever get to be the Cats-Cameron scenario

We were so far off it; makes my blood sizzle when I saw some posters earlier this year applauding Scotts

Don’t underestimate, they’re the type of club that’ll magically (with AFL help) find oil below “rock bottom”

Rock bottom;
a) losing to Wet Toast rd. 20.
b) getting smashed by * rd. 22, gifting them 4th spot on the ladder week 1 of finals. They play the Pies and arse a win and " fall " into a prelim.
c) Port win flag and *** the NS.medallist.
d) Clarko chucks it in

Then we will have arrived safely at the station. But, l'm ever the optomist. Be a silver lining amongst that lot somwhere.

You're a glass half full kind of person if ever I knew one Hoj.

I love your positive outlook. It inspires me.

I'm the kind of guy who watched yesterday's game and sighed at the end with the knowledge that some of those blokes will still be at North next year. Then, I realised that Davey Warner will be as well.
