I really like the optimism - and clearly there are some young players with better junior CV's than the previous side simply by virtue of their draft positions - but 6 of them haven't played a game and you could argue more than half the side hasn't shown enough for anyone to be certain of anything.
This is the nature of projections hooked in with emotional bias and lots of hope. It's a group of relatively high draft picks and some players that have shown glimpses and some players that are definitely good enough. That's all it is.
This is true, but it's still a significant amount more than what we had four years ago.
None of those players I listed in 2020, outside of perhaps Simpkin, had proven themselves, and now the ones who remain are for the most part reliable pieces that we can now build around. That in itself is reason to be a lot more optimistic.
A lot still has to go right in order for us to contend again, but we're now in a spot where things could conceivably go right. I'd argue that back in 2020, projecting a 2024 premiership was impossible, but now, with roughly another 30 players set to come and go, I don't think a 2028 premiership should be considered off limits.
It might only be half of my listed squad that plays on the day, but I think it's fair to be optimistic about our future.
