I was gonna say ever but wow were we crap in the 1930s.

Winless seasons, a period of 15 years where we were last or second last 12times.

Losing is s**t and there is no quick way out of the hole we're in.

We're Melbourne levels of s**t and they had 12 years between finals. We are at 8.

Lol.

It's been covered before but even in Melbourne's prolonged period of mediocrity they were never bottom 2 for more than 2 years at a time. We are on another level below entirely so the comparison is pointless.

So by that logic it would take longer?

I would go as far as to say that considering we had a valid reason for being hopeless in the late 20s/30s (being forced to give up our entire recruiting zone to * and being forced to cobble together a list from the dregs of what was left in other clubs VFA and VFL zones and dragging 30+ year old journeymem out of retirement) and considering we were competitive in the pre spilt VFA days and a powerhouse in the post spilt VFA, we have witnessed the worst onfield period in the 155 year history of the North Melbourne football club.
Strange, unnerving thought really.

I'd argue that point.
Carlton from 2002-2007 went: bottom, 2nd bottom, 11th, bottom, bottom, 2nd bottom

Melbourne from 2007-2014 went: 3rd bottom, bottom, bottom, 12th, 13th, 3rd bottom, 2nd bottom, 2nd bottom

I'm not sure grinding out a few wins and climbing a few rungs up the ladder to then come crashing down a) does us any good whatsoever b) makes those teams significantly better/different than where we have been during this horror period.

Whatever anybody's opinion currently is on Clarkson's talent as a coach or his ability to turn us around, he has made it clear that building a team to keep the clubs head above water and be comfortably midtable and mediocre is not anything he is interested in, and that building a premiership contender side out of a wooden spoon side is going to be brutal.

What makes me sick is when Media Experts tell us that you don’t need to bottom out to rebuild!

In the past 25 years we’ve tried the other way and got us zilch

Now we’re going the other way and you cop this negativity

How come Hawthorn with spuds like MacKenzie, McDonald, Frost, Amon and Meek and m8ssing Day and Lewis keep competative and we can't. Mitchell just a better coach?

Mitchell is a great coach, as is ours, but they've also had lots of stability and their messaging never really compromised on competitiveness even when they were selling the farm for picks.

The blokes from 2019-21 we need to come good are only just catching up to the 22-23 draftees now.

Watching Hawthorn yesterday they will beat us and the closest we may come to a win is in Round 13 vs The Eagles and we can’t beat them as that’s in Perth then we get a 2nd chance in Hobart against The Eagles in Round in Round 22 .
This club could go up to %90 of the season which will start the AFL to question the running of this club and could say there taking over.
If we are 0 wins from 12 games then just say Fu:kit flip the chess board over in all aspects of this club try something new.
Here could be an example what they may need to consider.
1:Take Zuhaar 5 year contract off the table and make sign new deal by July a 2 year deal with a trigger of a 3rd year if he doesn’t sign play him in the VFL for the rest of the season.
2:Sack Rawlings and Clayton ASAP then at the end of the year chase a Neil Balme type that has success on and off the field in this sport.
3:Besides the following our best play Sheezel Larkey Wardlaw McKercherand now Xerri the rest of the players if performing badly drop and we have to use the whole list so be it.
4:If Board Members don’t want to take this losing mentality out of the club then go I don’t care who it is .
Thats some things others may agree or disagree or have there own ideas but I can say future home games this season at Marvel or Hobart could be like Ghost Towns with no supporters turning up and been outnumbered by the opposition.

Because talent only takes you so far. Give me spuds who do everything they can for their team every day of the week. This club was built on that mantra.

We need real leaders in the place and it would be worth burning every one of this years and next years handful of first rounders.

I'm at the stage I'm not looking forward to watching my team. I approach every game with a degree of hope. I'm just about out of hope. It is getting harder and harder to watch.

I'm of the opinion that our situation is unique and we are performing well below the level that we are currently capable of (not to be confused with expecting us to be a good side) and it is becoming more and more clear that our main problem is endemic in the culture of our club after years of accepting poor performance and low standards in the name of rebuilding. Therefore using other rebuild timelines as a comparison is pointless and simply provides us with excuses and shifting goalposts. Yes we have Clarko etc. but we've already had one instance of him burning out (albeit due to factors beyond our control) but expecting he or anyone else in the coaching staff to be unshakeable rocks isn't really fair or realistic, just look at Ratten.

My main point though is that time will remain a non-factor unless we actually start to address the mental demons we have, and it won't matter how many crops of talented young kids we draft unless those demons are exorcised through competitive performances/wins that instill belief and confidence. I hope like hell our players are having sessions with sports psychologists because we are at a real risk of wasting the careers of players like Simpkin, LDU, Larkey, Zurhaar etc. needlessly.

Yourself and others disagree with my assessment and that's fine, I don't think all hope is lost or anything like that but I'm just not sure we are fully focused in the right direction.

I know we hate Kane Cornes and that's fair enough - I hate a lot of what he says too. But last week he talked about how our list is clearly underperforming compared to their talent, and blamed it on our club culture. Used the example of no one helping/comforting CCJ when he was injured, which I didn't notice at the time, but is pretty ****ing weird for a professional football club. Compare the footage to any other serious injury for other teams and all the teammates are running over desperate to say something nice to the victim. It was such a good example that it really is difficult to disagree.

Agreed 💯

When it turns it will come quickly, but there's no guarantee it will turn, for the reasons you mentioned.

Against who? (serious question, actually curious lol)

West Coast in Tassie
Richmond at Marvel
Hawthorn at Marvel
Adelaide in Tassie
Suns at Marvel

Then we pinch one of St.Kilda, Essendon, GCS in Darwin.

Any mix of those actually. don't want to put too much pressure on to win select games.

I personally think the Pies looked a bit fatigued on the back of six day breaks and travel vs Mitchell being "the special one".
As for who we can beat. I reckon it's 4-6 games out of WCE, Hawks, Tigers, Bombres, Saints, Dogs, Swans, Crows and GC.
I think we're nowhere near the likely top 6 level teams like Lions, Dees, Port, Cats, GWS and Pies but the rest we're a chance.
