Opinion Is this rock bottom?

My metaphor is we have a deep chasm to climb out of, and one more slip up will have us free falling down a bottomless pit.
There is no rock bottom, its either climb or fall to the end.

But I'm a pessimist. ;)
These metaphors tend to be self fulfilling.

We'll be out of this when we're out of it. Or we might not. WW3 might start before the 2026 season and that would **** things up.

I’ve seen things such as communism and Thelema discussed and compared to a team’s situation here on a footy forum.
If this is or isn’t rock bottom, who knows.. it is at least interesting.

Don't forget From Software games as well.

The cycle is this ....

NMFC pick a kid.
NMFC Bigfooty reckons kid is great because he does a few alright things (the kid is generally and obviously average at best)
We really want said kid to be great so we ignore the obvious.
Kid is obviously average or below.
Kid doesn't make it.
PlAyeR DeVElopMent is shit cos I thought he was gREat
NMFC picks another kid

etc

Or they become AFL standard which at North is top handful in the team I.e. Bailey Scott, Tom Powell and a high B&F spot is seen as some amazing achievement but really they are just good honest players. But we have to pay them well to get 95% of the cap. Which limits our godfather offers to real stars.

There is a russian saying that says something like "I thought this was rock-bottom, but then suddenly I heard a knocking sound from under the floor"

I was listening to Corey McKernan on Will Schofield’s podcast which I think was recorded last year. He riled at the suggestion that youth needs to be given time - citing his own meteoric rise at 20 as counterfactual to the belief that ruck men need time to develop.

Whilst Corey was a freak and some big men do take time to develop, he made the point more generally that if you make people believe that they ‘have time’ or ‘the wheel will eventually turn’ they will defer their effort to some time in future rather than focussing on the now.

Time will eventually tell whether this patient, slow burn re-build will bear any fruit, however it feels like there needs to be a shift in philosophy - that building belief in the now, is as important as believing that the future is a better place.

If the mindset is it’s OK to accept losses now because ‘we know where we’re at’ and ‘other clubs have been here before and built success’ then accountability is shifted and losing now becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

I’m no Psychologist, but one would hope that a focus over the bye weekend is as much about building individual confidence and belief about the now, as it is about tweaking the game plan and skill optimisation. From there I hope some wins will follow.

McKernan obviously forgets the depth around him that assisted, protected and buffered to enable accelerated development

How would he have gone over at Fitzroy at the time

Meh

And then he would have gone to Lions to be a triple Flag player

Corey is a smart man and your's is a good post.

Rest assured the club knows that performances this year are no where near 'where we expected to be at'.

We accept we have regressed alot further this season than anticipated and we will now have to change tack (ie recruit a number of journeymen) at seasons end to get us more competitive - effectively making this the 4th version of a 5 year rebuild.

It's a mess on field at the moment and there is real concern about where we are actually at - however there is confidence that we can still turn this around - and maybe get a win later in the season. Off field remains in good shape (as is the Women's team) and this is helping the mood around the club.

However the hole we are in on field is larger than expected and the path to being finals bound is a lot longer and less certain than we thought even 6 months ago.

Seeing the Hawks Absolutely dominate crows is depressing

At least they are motivated to win
Helps when you have decent senior players around that actually contribute to the team.

Let’s always blame the players lol nothing to do with the lack of leadership in our coaches, staff, or the people that run our club, nah.

Hawks are a young team. They’re at least competitive and put their mouth guards in at training due to shit performances, you know, standards.

Question: If the NMFC Board was asked whether they'd prefer our AFL team, or our AFLW team, to win a premiership within the next year or 2, which would they choose?

I'd choose both.

Watched on the couch last night, and I found it interesting that Gary Lyon was ropable about Melbournes performance against Freo. He had multiple examples of players missing handballs, kick and
Marks saying it was under 12 stuff. We cop this shit every week for years and no one seems to be as passionate as Gary and kick the players up the arse. I’m hoping that our pressure rating is high for the rest of the season and disposal improves otherwise some players could be gone at the end of the year.

I have followed this club for over 60 years, long time member, former shareholder and now I just can't watch this boring, uninteresting drivel any longer. There is no direction, no enthusiasm and by the look of it, no intelligence. Enough is enough but this is too much.
