Confident re: Hawthorn?
I am not confident at all.

However I think we will really get to see how much we are playing for the coach in the last round.

I am hopeful.

We'll win 3 of the last 4. Our points for vs against in this period will average out to 92 for vs 80 away. We'll finish with 5 wins and a percentage marginally higher than last year (72%). It will be something; better than nothing.

And the loss we have will be to the Bulldogs, who will as a result keep * out of the 8.

Again, that's something.

Onwards and upwards.
In 2023 our doubles up were against West Coast (18th), Hawthorn (16th), Gold Coast (15th), Essendon (11th), St Kilda (6th) and Melbourne (4th). 3 garbage teams and none that won a final. We couldn't have had a softer fixture.

2024 are West Coast (currently 16th), Gold Coast (13th), Hawthorn (9th), Bulldogs (8th), Geelong (6th) and Carlton (4th). Only West Coast are garbage and the last 4 teams all have a good shot at winning a final/making a run.

The point being the draw has been significantly harder this year and it isn't completely indicative of performance year on year.

Rock bottom was the Darwin, 2nd Essendon and Port Adelaide game block. Since then the team's been building nicely. I'm confident we're winning the Eagles and Tigers games.

EDIT - Removed Essendon from 2024 teams. Which further proves my point the fixture has been harder this year.

That's kind of irrelevant when they're significantly better than us.

Last season I think we had a worse run with injuries and at this stage we're on track for a worse season.
Yes, after the bye their has been improvement but the problem with that is we played the first half of the season with an embarrassingly pathetic defensive structure and made no immediate efforts to address it until halfway through the season.

We have some good young players but we're consistently putting games into too many players who aren't AFL standard and never will be and our mid tier players are worse than other sides mid tier players.

We only played Essendon once this year. I wish we had them again in the coming weeks tbh, they look utterly resigned.

Good pick thanks! OP amended.

Yes.

Misplaced? Very possibly!

My guess is the Hawks will lose the next two and thus be out of 8 contention by the final round, and that will see them run out of steam after what has been a pretty incredible run of form and sustained high intensity for months now with very few down games.

Disclaimer: This post is 20% analysis, 30% hunch, and 50% the usual '2 days after a bad loss just re-emerging optimism'.

I don't have the ladder predictor open but they have two tricky games before Richmond and us.

they're playing so well though. when was their last bad game?
have shown an ability to win and play well interstate as well.

they'll comfortably beat both Richmond and us. Win one of those two tricky games and they'll make finals (after losing their first 5!),

I'd say their R17 loss to Geelong but they've been few and far between. My point was that they'll have something to play for in R24.

They will.

And all we will have is pride and belief in our coach

So we stand to learn a whole lot.

I don't expect a win however I don't want to be disgraced off the field we have the last few times.

Goodness me we're on the way up, you might not think so but we are.

1 Xerri - best ever year, sent by the Gods. Pick 72
2 Comben - Pick 31 is a super talent and will brain when he plays out of FF.
3 Archer pick 50 odd

Those three alone tell you we left rock bottom a ways back :)

Correct. Frankly, you can argue we kinda need these games to absolutely highlight what needs to change to continue improving (an upgrade on Pink, some forward system and crumbing forward, etc). We dominated possession for a lot of the game but could not put the score on the board. If you’re going to have a problem to fix, that’s not such a bad one really.

We’d all preferred to have won but we’re on the right path - just moving more slowly along that path than the hawks for example.

Solid recruiting over the summer and our growth spurt will come. We’re still growing in the meantime; getting games into the core and teaching them valuable lessons.

Come H1 next year though, no doubt it is time to start learning to win and put teams away.

I reckon we get pumped next week by the dogs & lose 3-4% then lose to the hawks & lose 1-2% enough for tigers to pinch a win vs GC at the G & take our spot in 17th .
Spoon is ours again

Now that’s rock bottom

Whatever happens, 2027 draft will be very important, we need to stock up on picks for 2027 and then we will get knockers on the door from teams place 1 to 12 wanting to replenish the draft hands before tasmania.

We will make them overpay.
