Is this the biggest thing ever?

Events that occur out of the blue and are so far fetched in terms of what you thought likely are bound to affect you more than anything else. In all wars, there has been something leading up to it, usually attacks on a smaller scale on military targets.

Natural disasters are considered an act of god and while the human suffering is immense, we all know that it could happen. Nobody could have conceived the events that have transpired in America and it shocks us to the core. We are well insulated in Australia and bought up on a diet of Hollywood movies where the American are indestructable.

I don't believe any of you can condemn any others for their own opinion on what has affected them more. In this age of visual communication, it is natural that this sort of thing is going to burn deep. I mean, watching those planes fly into those buildings is a pretty powerful image.

I understand your point of view BSA, but I can understand why others feel the way they do. On Princess Diana's death, once again it was a powerful image scenario. The tragic death of somebody who was a icon for hope around the world. The people's princess.

There are no right or wrong opinions here, just emotions. Let's not belittle each other.

I'm actually very surprised NO-ONE mentioned it!!!

There is another incident that does rate as one of the worst and that is:

Arpil the 28th, 1996 - The Port Arthur Massacre!! The worlds worst mass killing by a single person!

You are right CJ. That was also shocking. I still struggle to read accounts of what Walter Mikac went through. (I hope I remembered his name correctly!:o)

while this is certainly the most significant tradgedy to have occurred since i've been old enough to comprehend what's going on (only 17), i keep thinking of the cuban missile crisis in the 60's that had the world afraid of nuclear warfare. i am so scared this could escalate into a similar stand-off (if the terrorists' identities are determined), but is the US now capable of avoiding WWIII if it gets to that sort of a situation? i hope so. :(

its the most televised terrorist attack in history...i think thats why it seems so huge

certianly for us "young uns" its the biggest event ever

I think without a doubt that it is the biggest thing since WWII. Ive never seen all channels covering it for 2 days straight now. No regular programming, just the tradegy. It is by far teh biggest thing in my lifetime.
