The fixture was fairly kind to the Blues before tonight and their remaining nine games are against Fremantle (3rd) @ Marvel, St Kilda (6th) @ Marvel, West Coast (18th) @ Optus, Geelong (5th) @ MCG, GWS (13th) @ Marvel, Adelaide (15th) @ Adelaide Oval, Brisbane (1st) @ Gabba, Melbourne (2nd) @ MCG and Collingwood (9th) @ MCG. If you consider Collingwood a top 8 team like they were a few hours ago then 6 of Carlton's last 9 are against top 8 teams with potential tricky trips Adelaide and Perth thrown in the mix as well. Those last 3 fixtures against Brisbane away, Melbourne at the G and Collingwood at the G look particularly tough for a team that will likely be in a race for a top 8 spot by that point. Injuries are also becoming a big problem for the Blues.

You probably need 13 wins to guarantee finals this year so Carlton need to find another 4 wins this season. Can they do it or will they fall away from here?

We won’t win another game all season and I agree.

Finals are gone and most likely more injuries to key players. See you in 2023 if we can stay healthy which never happens.

Pies or Tigers will win the flag I reckon and they are just cruising along currently and have great supporters on here. 👌

No, they have enough quality to make finals. Whether they'll hang onto a top 4 spot is questionable, but will certainly make the 8. They showed great spirit to hang in there and fight back against Richmond. Will be there abouts, and will probably build on their success next year.

Nice melt

Despite their loss Carlton did pretty well to get as close they did despite things going against them. Their defence is decimated by injury and had 79 inside 50's against them, but their defence held up incredibly well.

On the flip side of that though is that this indicates that their midfield wasn't performing well. They have a good midfield lead by Welsh and Cripps, if they can get their act together and tonight is a anomaly then I wouldn't be writing them off yet.

It's a tough road ahead.

Durdin injured means we have 6 key position defenders out (including 1-4 on the depth chart) and one total who is fit - and he had played 24 games total before this year.

Midfield is the strength but without our main ruckman and down a key rotation player for a while (Cerra) it's beatable.

To be honest though our depth is OK and the defence held up ok tonight regardless. We played like s**t on a short week against a team who have close to zero injuries and are flying, copped the rough end of some umpiring and still hung thereabouts until the end.

To make finals we need 4 wins. While the run home is tougher, that basically means beating West Coast, GWS (in melb), Adelaide and then one of St Kilda, Geelong, Collingwood, Freo (even Melbourne on current form) - all at favourable grounds.

There should be enough talent on the park to do that... and we have played consistently reasonable footy this year.

Huge game next week imo

The midfield relies on a bash and crash ruckman with adequate tap work to give them first use - it's why we were so dominant in there before Pittonet went down. Him injured hurts us massively, but not having a ready made backup ruckman on the list is poor list management imo.

Anyway, we're just at breaking point with injuries. Teams can handle 3, 4 maybe 5 best 22 players out every now and then; but we have 6+ key players out every ******* week. Also depth players injured too, it eventually all stacks up.

If we can pinch 4 wins and go into finals getting some players back, I'd be confident of winning a final. Which would've been considered a success at the start of the year.

Carlton have injuries for the first time in 30 years welcome to the club of competing for finals.

We've actually had pretty bad injuries every year since deciding to recruit injury prone players (about 2016 onward), nobody has really noticed or cared though because we've been down the bottom.

Think top 8 still but need players back to do any damage. At the very least Pittonet and Weitering. Tough run home after any easier start. Bottom half of the 8 seems about right.

Pittonet…what does former dictators of South American countries got to do with Carlton?

No, their got some injuries but they have enough talent out there to play finals & possibly win one.

Welcome to Hawthorn this year. We have been pretty banged up all year too but nobody cares when your irrelevant. Didn't have a fit ruck available 3 weeks ago to prove my point and we have 3 on the list.

They tried hard but didn’t respect Richmond’s recent success. Just assumed they would win by turning up to the game. You could see that at the start of the game. Unfortunately now their supporters are blaming injuries and umpiring decisions. They can still make it if they learn to respect their opponents.
To be fair , the rule changes and not getting 8 x 50 meter penalties hurt their scoring

Cerra, Weitering and Pittonet should all be back for the last 6 or so games. The injury prone guys like Williams, McGovern and maybe Marchbank should all be back 3-4 weeks before finals if we make them.
Need a fair bit to go right but we should actually be peaking at finals time so from the West Coast game on is where we will need to really build from

The difference this year is that we are fighting games out. However with a tough run home and so many injuries to key players making the 8 is no sure thing
