Current Is WA Australia's New Murder Capital - SA wants to know

Blame South Australia's reputation as serial killer central on three really horrendous cases.
  • The 'Truro murders' was the name given to a series of murders uncovered in the 1970s. The remains of seven girls were found; five in Truro in regional SA, one at Wingfield and one at Port Gawler.
  • The Snowtown or 'bodies-in-the-barrels' murders was the now infamous killing of 11 people in the 1990s. John Justin Bunting is serving a life sentence as the ring leader of the group responsible.
  • The 'Family murders' involved the killing and torture of five young men from the 1970s to the mid-1980s. Bevan Spencer von Einem is serving a life sentence for one of those murders.
There are also notorious unsolved disappearances, Adelaide Oval and the Beaumont children.

Recently, WA has been featuring for some extremely brutal, particularly vile crimes.

The Sandgropers are catching up fast...2006 Collie 16 year old lesbian lovers Parushumti and Stanikowsky murder 15 year old Stacey Mitchell who they had only known three days, stiff her body a wheelie bin then join in the search for her....the Greenough family axe murders where the perpetrator tried to castrate himself in a fit of remorse afterwards..... drug dealer Steven Cookson dismembered in a city unit and his head discovered washed up on Trigg Beach...the jaw dropping bikie bombing of Hancock and Lewis in Lathlain,,,,Shirley Finnn...

An issue in WA is with the state government being blatantly ripped off via the gst there is a strain on funds for basic state safety net services like mental health services just like WA has more fires caused by faulty power lines because rural power lines dont get checked and serviced as they should because of a lack of funds.

Statisticly though murders were down in Australia from 474 to 414 last year also down by twently last year in WA and NSW had the most with 150 followed by Victoria with 100 Queensland then WA .SA had about 35 murders if I remember correctly those numbers are not exact but roughly around the mark.

- those are 2016/17 stats .Forgot we are already into 2018/19.

Kill 7 people because you dont like your son in law? Try 11.

The Bartholomew family - 1971

The 18-month-old nephew of Clifford Cecil Bartholomew was the last to be killed, shot through the head at point-blank range while he lay sleeping in his cot.

Bartholomew, then 40, had just shot and killed the other nine members of his family at a remote farmhouse in Hope Forest, near Willunga, in what was then Australia's worst mass murder.

He then sat down and had a beer, before remembering his toddler nephew was still alive and reloaded his gun.

Derrance Stevenson - 1979

The man convicted of the shooting death of highly regarded Adelaide lawyer Derrance Stevenson, 44, has always maintained his innocence.

Mr Stevenson's body was found dumped in his freezer, in a foetal position and wrapped in two green garbage bags. He had been shot in the back of the head with a .22 calibre rifle, dressed in a shirt, underpants and socks.

Megumi Suzuki and Maya Jakic - 1999 and 2001

The search for missing Japanese schoolgirl Megumi Suzuki ended in tragedy, but also sent a rapist and murderer to prison.

Megumi, 18, was last seen on a city bus on August 3, 2001. The search went for weeks and perplexed police. Theories of drugs or criminal activity were quickly discounted.

Meanwhile her killer, Mark Errin Rust, was continuing his crimes.

Rust started as a flasher and lit fires as an arsonist before turning to rape and murder.

He killed Croatian immigrant Maya Jakic in 1999, left her at the old Payneham police station and began to try to tell police where she was. A call to the SA Ambulance Service and a note left at the Norwood police station failed. So he rang Crime Stoppers anonymously. That phone call was his downfall.

Police visited Rust in his cell at Port Augusta Prison. In his possession was an electronic organiser that belonged Megumi.

Pirjo Kemppainen - 2010

The truly brutal killing of Pirjo Kempannein was horrific.

Worse that it was at the hands of a 14-year-old who, during sentencing, admitted to being obsessed with killing people since Year 1.

Vonne McGlynn - 2008

The callous and horrific murder of elderly pensioner Vonne McGlynn was spurred on by the most basic of human emotions - that of greed for money.

Latvian immigrant Angelika Gavare, a mother of two, killed and dismembered the pensioner in a bizarre plot to sell her Reynella house.

A Supreme Court found her guilty of murder in 2011, with her conviction hanging off key evidence from her mother, Inara Dombrovska, who testified that her daughter confessed to the murder during a Christmas celebration in 2008.

Part 2

Group of teens torture and murder 18 yr old

Kehoe was among a gang of five teenagers who killed 18-year old Tracey Muzyk in December 1996.

Ms Muzyk was burned with cigarettes, scalded with boiling water and sprayed with mace at Royal Park before being stabbed with a fence post and beaten with a rock.

Kehoe, who had just turned 18 at the time of the murder, was given a non-parole period of 18 years, but an appeal saw her minimum term reduced to 15 ½ years.

Chloe Valentine aged 4

Chloe died on January 20, 2012, aged four.

Polkinghorne, 22, and her partner Benjamin Robert McPartland, 28, laughed as they video recorded her repeatedly falling off a motorbike in their backyard over a three-day period.

The 39 injuries Chloe sustained in those falls led to her death.

While WA have some gruesome murders, weren’t most of them one off scenes? You would think that SA still has the lead on actual serial killers.

Here’s an article showing some of SA’s most gruesome crimes. Not pretty and boy are there some f***d up people in them.

Doesn’t even take into account any of the missing children cases presumed dead like BC or Adelaide Oval abductions.

You make some valid points and I am not above jumping ships like a rat when things aren't looking good for my argument...you could also add the Liam Humbles, Lewis McPherson tragedy where a drug dealing doped out of his mind 17 year old wandering the streets of Adelaide on New years Eve carrying a rod SUPPLIED TO HIM BY HIS LOCAL DRUG DEALER shot and killed an 18 year old youth basically for looking at him the wrong way .
Humbles then chased off, and took pot shots at two of the young mans friends who were trying to assist him as he lay dying in the gutter, then busted a cap at a passing car for good measure.
You would only have expected to read a story like this in the old original American "True Detective magazines" covering Americas most heinous crimes of the 50s and 60s -not suburban Adelaide in 2012......

Based on this post there’s also a strain on provision of commas.

The majority of those you would see an equivalent in every jurisdiction in the world I reckon.

The Family/Truro/Snowtown is where we got our reputation I reckon.

Re the McFarland/Polkinghorne incident - as tragic as that was , I dont believe that one was murder.

What about this one? I never even heard about it, this girl just vanished. SA again.

Twelve-year-old Rhianna Barreau planned walk to the local mall in South Australia in October 1992 to buy a card for her American pen pal. She normally would have taken the bus, but bus drivers were on strike that day and Rhianna didn’t want to wait. Her mother agreed that she could go to the mall, said goodbye to her daughter, and headed off to work.

People witnessed Rhianna walking along Highway Drive just before lunchtime. This would be the last time anyone saw her. Rhianna’s mother arrived home that afternoon to find the card for her daughter’s friend lying on the dining room table and a record lying on the floor. The TV was blaring in an empty room.

Calling Rhianna and receiving no reply, Ms. Barreau started looking. First inside the house, then outside, eventually going to neighbors asking if they had seen Rhianna that day. No one had. Police were called, but Rhianna was never seen again and to this day no one knows what happened to her.

In 2015, a police officer attempting to solve the now decades-old cold case offered up a reward of $1 million to anyone who had credible information on Rhianna Barreau’s disappearance. Nothing came of that either. After all these years, Ms. Barreau still lives in the same house, hoping against hope that her daughter might return. Or at least that there will be some kind of closure before she herself passes on.

Around the corner from me. No it isnt me.

This is a weird one. Because of all the stuff at the house its been said its somebody she knew enough to open the door. Link

While Mr Barreau has imagined many, many scenarios over the past two decades to try and explain Rhianna’s disappearance, he concedes none make sense.

He doesn’t believe she would have let anyone inside the house she didn’t know and feels it would be most unusual she would have been taken off a quiet suburban street without someone noticing.

reassessing all witness statements and reinterviewing several persons of interest. “As far as we are concerned there is someone, if not several people, who know something,” he said.

While he would not elaborate on the connection between Rhianna and any person of interest, he said some were of interest “more than others”.

“There are also people who for different reasons may have lied to us. We would like them to have a think about their reasons and motivation,” he said.

Only 12yo, not old enough to be associating with much older teens for example with their licenses who MIGHT know how to keep a secret. Not sure I understand the last line on people lying for different reasons. Who could lie about something so serious when she's only 12yo?

You probably all know about this one, linked to the family murders.

His partner David Szach, 19, was jailed for the murder for 18 years and was released on parole 14 years later. He still maintains he did not commit the crime.

Mr Stevenson was linked to the Family murders - reports in 1988 said he regularly met with a secret group and tried to leave just before his death.

The report said a friend of Stevenson at the time had procured boys for the dead lawyer - one had been Szach.

This case is one time the conspiracy theories are true. ' They' may have felt David knew more than he actually did and killed two birds with one stone. Got rid of Derrance and put David in jail. Now anything he may say is tainted by ' he is a murderer trying to shift blame'

*allegedly

Another cold case in SA, really awful this woman was beaten so badly she only had 20mil of blood left in her body. So her heart was beating until then.

Interesting.

South Australian Police will seek expert help to re-examine crucial DNA evidence to look for fresh clues in the unsolved 1991 murder of Mount Gambier woman Yasmin Sinodinos.

A man was acquitted of her murder by a Supreme Court jury in 2014, but investigators have today confirmed the man remains the only suspect in the case.

Timo Pasanen was on trial accused of killing Ms Sinodinos, but a jury deliberated for more than four hours and returned a majority not guilty verdict.

Mr Pasanen was charged based on a DNA match but his lawyer argued that the prosecution could only prove the man had sex with Ms Sinodinos in the final hours of her life.

BOOM

Alledges not only is Adelaide murder capital of Australia, but the world! An extremely articulate and detailed testimony of the daughter of Allen Maxwell McIntyre (Max) and half sister of Andrew and Ruth McIntyre to the International Tribunal for Natural Justice on the 1st August 2018. Rachel Vaughan alledges she witnessed 6 children murdered by her father Max McIntyre and dismembering another 2.

Also claims that the 80 year suppression of perpetrators found in the Adelaide's Mullighan Inquiry covers up the over 100 unexplained deaths found by that Inquiry.

This is for starters. She claims Max had immunity from prosecution because of his knowledge concerning important people.

34:30 onwards. What did she claim her father was a member of? An “exclusive club” of what BlueE? Where is the transcript? Question by FreoStar Happy Freo I'm moving into this thread. (How do you get the name to link?)

She says not only was McIntyre part of the "Men and Boys Salvage and Exploration Club" with Munro he was part of the Satanic Rosecruction sect of the Golden Dawn started by Alistair Crowley and separately a Freemason. Sounds like OTOG's would have information doesn't it?

Not sure what thats got to do with murder rates but terrific comment give yourself 94 cents in the dollar

Could have sworn I have heard someone taking about serial killers in WA before, including female ones.

Speaking of short cents in the dollar, can you recall anything about that Asapartyhat?

Interesting book mentioned. Any members of that sort of group floating around? Maybe someone can repost some screen shots again. Or some more group photos.
