Has the game passed Lance by? In the past he got a game due to Carlton's abominable list. Lance now appears to be holding Carlton back. Should he be cast adrift?

In the past he was an incredible young footballer, his years in 1999 and 2000 were fantastic. Ever since then he's had injury/weight problems and has not been consistent. In 2002 he was in AA contention until Fevola crahsed into his shoulder and ended his season, last year he was also in contention.

He's not a bad player. He's had an injury interrupted preseason and the personal issues clouding him. IMO I'll reserve my judgement until Round 6, give the bloke some time to improve. One game doesn't make a season.

There isn't much talent down at Carlton, a handful of good players surrounded by VFL plodders.
They need Lance to have a good year if they plan on getting out of the bottom four.

We've shown a lot more "talent" than your mob so far. You struggled against arguably the wooden spoon favourites, a side that doesn't have a forward line.

If we played next week, we'd smash you. But there is still time to improve, on both sides. Glad we've won without much input from Whitnall, Scotland, Murph, Fevola and Simpson (last year they were consistent)... still a lot of room for improvement.

So you'll give our captain until round 6. Great supporter you are.
If your captain isn't performing at least a quarter into the season, then you should be asking questions about his ability. If it's 6 in a row, even moreso. I'm actually giving him time rather than writing him off as some people have been. If he consistently plays like crap with no sign of improvement, you have to drop him.

And you question my worth as a supporter? Pfft.

You have no idea mate.

Yes I do kiddo. With supporters with attitudes like yours it's a wonder the club has survived these last few years in the cellar.

At least some of us recognise our captains ability, and his loyalty to the club.
I was here on the year when we won our first wooden spoon.

I was here deflecting all the crap and defending our club true.

I have bought 3 silver memberships for the past few years just so I could lend a helping hand.

I've been to every Carlton game played in Melbourne ever since the rot started, did not leave a single game even when we were pumped.

I was one of the Blues supporters on this board who stuck with Lance through thick and thin, knocking off trade suggestions because he is still a worhty player for the club.

I was one of the Blues supporters on this board who wanted him to be captain ahead of Stevens.

Don't you dare question my loyalty to Carlton. Because if you do, I will scorch you until your sub-atomic particles no longer exist.

You start questioning my loyalty and support, I say you have no clue. Lance's poor performance and my criticism of him has nothing to do with loyalty to the club, or to him for that matter. I'll stick by him regardless, but the reality is, if he doesn't improve and doesn't provide the leadership required in the next month or two, then he needs a stint in the twos. The club will always be greater than the individual, he fails to peform up to standard for a long time, then a kid should take his place on the field until he improves. It's the same with every other player.

I'm confident he will improve, but if he doesn't by Round 6 at least, then it is a big worry. Are we going to continue to accept mediocre performance? If we're ever going to improve we have to stamp out poor performances - if that means dropping our captain for one or two weeks if he continues with it, then so be it.

But when it comes to bagging my support for the club I love, you cross the line. And I will annihilate you if you do.

I was behind the club over a decade before you were even thought of.

Longevity of support doesn't mean another one is more or less of a supporter, or an unworthy one for that matter.

Your entire argument revolves around me saying Lance should be dropped in the twos if he doesn't improve by Round 6. From this admission alone you conclude that my attitude as a supporter has a destructive influence, hence I am unworthy of being one.

You don't have a clue really.

Lance had one bad game. This is just an aberration and he will be back to playing championship footy (hopefully not against the Hawks ;)).

Stop it. You're annihilating me.
Why are you calling him kid?? Surely you are not older than 16 yourself?? We have all read your posts and all you do is make immature comments, and get into slanging matches with opposition supporters who are known teenagers.
Either you are a kid pretending to be older, to back up your statements that you are a long time and loyal supporter....or....you are a 30 plus man, who spends enormous amounts of time on here picking childish fights with kiddies.
I'm not sure which of these is more pathetic.

Re Lance: He is having his knee drained regularly, has the off field issues with his brother, and has played 1 poor game. Like Thrawn, i would give him at least till rd 6, and if he is still not finding the ball at all, Carlton would need to think about either dropping him or repositioning him. I'm not sure that the forward line suits him anymore. Fisher, Kennedy and Fevola are probably potent and tall enough. His lack of pace as a 4th key forward may become an opposition fast rebounding dilemma.
Can he play loose in the backline? This will suit on occassions. Also there will be times when he will have a good match-up down back.
Unfortunately till he finds some form i can see him pinch hitting down back and up forward, but spending plenty of time on the bench.

What round do we play Collingwood again??? Perhaps some other teams will have started taking notice of what is happening down at Royal Parade by then!!! I certainly think Collingwood and their fans will be taking notice afterwards!!!

Go Blues!!!

With Thrawn, give the bloke some time but if there's no improvement by round 6 - 8 you would have to start asking questions. 'Team is bigger than the individual' is all the justification you need, as it should be.

CattyBossDog, thinking we should leave someone who is not performing in the team out of blind loyalty is not the option to take, nor does it mark you as having more worth than a supporter with the alternative view.
