Business & Finance Is workplace safety beyond the joke now?

Not really practical but booze. When you drink your body breaks that down first so will be the dominant substance picked up. Doubt niacin and OJ would do anything.

Otherwise you simply need a way to get rid of it quickly.

Does Ural work as well? I've heard that gets used. As far as I ended up understanding if you dilute your piss by drinking water as much as you can it's the way to go, plus the cannabinoids are usually in the first bit and last bit of your piss. But apparently a highly watery urine test is considered suspicious.

They also test the temperature of the urine sometimes too, so if you use synthetic piss or someone else's and it's not body temp you can get pinged. You can buy a kit with a fake dick and a bladder with a heater which can heat to 37 degrees celsius. I didn't go to those lengths when i thought i'd be tested, thought it would be easier to just get another job.

I thought OHS was all crap, However recently i asked someone to pass me a stanley knife, and the tosser then threw it at me, clearly i didnt catch it but it hit my leg and gave me a little nick

It's all about building a safety culture. anyone who whinges it's unproductive ect. Has no ******* clue. Because in the end a safer workplace with as little people getting injured is much more efficient and cheaper then cutting corners, and ill dare anyone to argue this.

Wont argue that sitting through a 20 minute lecture is fun however when you are behind work, want to get your job done ect.
They've banned Stanley knives on some of our worksites.

As an Electrician, this is mighty inconvenient.

What ****en idiot can't use a Stanley knife without causing a Royal Commission?

I worked on a project where all ladders were banned, scissor lifts everywhere. They can't get everywhere so blokes were just waiting for the coast to be clear and using milk crates or whatever, clearly more dangerous.

I was on a union site once and thought I'd play a little gag on some of the blokes who were working in a switch room. I opened the door and said in a loud voice "Hi everyone this is John Setka, I'm just checking that you're following all relevant site rules!" Everyone shit themselves, no one found it funny but me ha ha

So at my work a while ago it was brought up that there were sending guys out by themselves to do jobs that needed two people due to the size and weight of parts that had to be lifted.

So the company thought long and hard about the possibility of having to pay overtime to two people or staff well enough to be able to send two guys on jobs.

They went out and bought a lifter, this thing came in two cases, and each case weighed more than any of the parts we needed to lift. So they thought making the guys lug three parts instead of one, then setup the 130kg manual lifter by themselves, unbox and load the part onto the lifter and then use the lifter to get it to the right height to install was workplace safety

End result, nobody uses the lifter, during the day we get two guys on jobs, at night the on call guy has to do his best just like before the issue was raised

Its odd that the Hazard Management protocol decides engineering is more about the mechanical when it can also mean manpower

Substitute
Isolate
Engineer
Administrative ( paperwork , notices, etc)
PPE ( protective)

i reckon it goes, it's a two man job, yeah we won't get approval for a second guy, how do we get around that

it's usually easier to ask for budget for gear than people

I think things have improved in regarding safety. Things have also declined regarding safety.
I like the fact that you have to be licensed to operate machinery and be inducted to help give you the risks that are involved with a job. What I don't like is the procedures that go with it. Ie take 5's they don't save lives, they can be time consuming to fill out, it's just a tick and flick protocol to cover any potential lawsuits for the company by putting all accountability and responsibility onto the worker.

With so many protocols now in place, with an never ending demand to get products out the door, accountants and managers saying it should only take x amount of time, workers are compelled at times to take unnecessary short cuts to keep up with the requirements, which puts themselves and others at risk. The managers don't care if there is no incident, but are very quick to blame the workers on following procedure when an incident does occur.

It's my opinion the procedures and work place forms don't save lives or prevent accidents, it's those you work with that do. When you have the right people with you, they will guide you and teach on how to do things in a more reliable manner. Unfortunately big company bosses see people talking as a negative, when the reality is it's a positive. I'm a firm believer that proactive communication is a bigger saver of lives in work places rather than unnecessary and pointless forms that just adds more stress, and less time to deliver. But the big companies are just doing what they can so they don't get sued.
