He simply is NGE (or NOT GOOD ENOUGH). Give young Josh Carmichael a run next week after
again the Gold Coast instead.

What is Carmichael like as a small forward?

Small forward , 3 goals in 20 vfl games , paaaaleeeease .

I doubt he’s played more than a couple of games primarily as a forward. Was used as a small defender last year and started there this year before being switched into the midfield a few games back.

Am answering another poster who quoted this summary of him , this is correct , played all over the ground , here is another news flash. Not AFL standard , surprised he gets a game in the Magoos. Athlete with power and limited football nous

I was surprised he was selected given he really hasn’t done a great deal at VFL level.

But the selection committee may have been looking for a certain type of player/role for the game.

I didn’t watch him closely off the ball, but it seems the Pies set up well defending the corridor which GWS likes to utilise. They have kicked scores of over 100 in 3 of their last 4 games. They struggled against us because their couldn’t switch out of the backline I tot he middle. 7 goal last qtr flattered them.

Maybe Chugg was selected, and played his role, off the ball protecting the corridor?

One thing he did do was create space for the other forwards.
He was constantly stepping between the GWS backman and our forward.
He was like a little terrier in that regard.

Yeah, agree it was an interesting selection....You hope for the best but ultimately he fell short of the mark, hard gig being a pressure forward.

the selection reminded me a little of what Bucks would do, select a player from the VFL and play them forward of centre as a role player.

Chugg hasn't IMO really performed to a level in the VFL that cry's pick me as a small forward. The complete opposite to Ginnivan as an example. The selection smelt rotten pregame and unfortunately it didn't come off

Any way Chugg had a taste and can work hard for another shot.

Not a bad day. I was joking as I thought it was weird that you were hoping his kids were ordinary footballers.

Was a strange selection to begin with… so too the decision to then delist and re-rookie.

Showed good tenacity and attack for the ball that will make him a successful footballer at lower levels
