Now that we are not getting Warnock and that frees up some $$$, they are talking on SEN that we have a bigger propensity to get ROK in the PSD, which he is likely to go to.

Now, I am not advocating spending over 500k per year for a 28 yr old player when we are in our current situation but the fact that we didn't get Warnock does give us some leeway.

If we offer O'Keefe more than what was offered by any club in trade week is he then bound to us at the expense of missing out all together?

The talk is that Carlton may get him if he goes PSD but Melbourne may be able to get in first if willing. Personally I think we are better off letting him go and save some $$$ but you never know.

I think O'Keefe is a fantastic player, but he doesn't really suit us at the moment. Also, I personally think he'd rather play for Sydney than come here considering our current predicament...

He'd be ideal for a club like Hawthorn who are right in the mix, maybe Collingwood as well, but he's not going to help us win a flag in the time he has left in the AFL...

He would be an ideal role model for our young players though...

Just can't see it happening.

Let him go to Visy's Carltank. They can obviously afford him and he won't win a premiership there.

I'm glad we diden't get raw boned, untried Warnock or the injured fringe Geelong player Primall, we can build a team of youngsters.

2012 hay.

We cant get b-grade players to have a look at us, how would we get someone like him?
The PSD works differently, if you haven't already been outbid then you have priority (so I beleive anyway).

Having said that I think he doesn't fit our plans at all and even if we can fit him in the cap it isn't worth it. I thought I would just put it out there for discussion though because it isn't often that a big name falls to the PSD simply due to the fact that a trade was stalled by incidental circumstances. In the Rawlings situation there was a Veale deal but ROK seems to have fallen to the PSD just by circumstance. Maybe I am just a little peeved with Carlton atm and am venting.

I like the idea it f@cks Carltank over more than the fact we'd be getting an awesome player.

Maybe the other 14 teams can each chip in $50K to help us pay his contract to stop those VISY w@nkers buying a flag.

Look guys, I have to admit that this thread is sponsored by Heineken and I am pissed in more ways than one but I have just had enough of that ****en club. Maybe if it was another club I wouldn't have started this thread but I have just had enough of those tanking, under the table ***holes.

If we don't get ROK I just hope someone else besides Visy does!

it would be good in some aspects but it wont happen.
a. his price tag.
b. he is 28.
c. we have matthew bate who plays the o'keefe role.

I know mate, it isn't our direction - we all know this, just sick of the same ****s gobbling up all these players. Cheers for your thoughts though.:thumbsu:

I heard on ten news Cartank offered him a 4 year deal worth around 2mill if he was to go to them through the PSD, I smell a rat.

If ever there was a loss/loss for both player and club this would be that.

He won't be around when we challenge for a flag and he'd find it a lot harder playing for such an average team.

i wouldn't giv a shit if okeefe went to carltank, cause for the next 5 years their cap will be at its limits (supposedly) and no one else should be "linked" to carltank

Wouldnt suprise me if we chased O'Keefe, since the past yr, we have
done a few things that made me scratch my head..
eg - tried to win games towards the end of last yr when there was
no point - bullies?
Kept Robinson, when the bullies were chasing him.
Now we've kept Green - wouldve freed up our cap, plus give us
less chance of actually winning games next yr..

When we are next in contention for a flag, Green, Bruce, O'Keefe
all wouldnt be there, all they are doing is delaying the time we
get till we actually have a strong side..

Simple we have 2 players on massive contracts: Judd and Fev.
Stevens, Warnock and Waite are on around 350-400k and the rest of our list are kids we have plenty of room on our salary cap. How are Geelong doing it? 7 AA this year..

Wait till next year when their young players are being picked off and the realisation that Warknock is a spud.

21 for 21 games is hardly superstar material. Carlton could have traded for Okeefer and picked up Vickery who will be a better ruckman in the long run.

It's not how you can afford him now, that's pretty obvious because of your young list, it's more how you expect to afford them all in 2-3 years.

Add O'Keefe to the list on $500k, Murphy & Gibbs will wanting their 3rd contracts in this time (3rd contract at 22-23 is where you start to hit big money) and there will be plenty of other players expecting bigger contracts as well, unless the salary cap goes through the roof i can't understand how you'll afford all of these players.

Some Geelong players have very publicly taken paycuts or agree to new contracts that are less then their market value so they could keep the team together, but not every team can be expected to do that. Good on Carlton if they can do that, but forgive us if we don't believe that there's not a few paper bags floating around
