I wouldn't despair after todays performance, the Cats are short priced top 4 material and played right up to that today....we have a long way to go but their is plenty of upside to todays ordinary performance....Better games will be extracted from the likes of brown , Coghlan, Richo and Simmonds in coming weeks....I liked Knobels hgame, wins plenty of tapouts and neutralises the contest with strong bodywork if he doesnt get hands to leather...

we have every chance to win next three games against Hawks, Bulldogs and Freo...expect to see a few changes

IN: Hartigan, Moore, Raines, Tambling
OUT: Tivendale, Graeme, chaffey

Yes I agree. Once we get the right midfield mix, we will be alot better. Wallace is still learning about our players and he will get the players in the correct positions soon. Once we get the midfield right, we'll win more centre clearances, get more ball to the forwards and less ball in defence. We also need to man up better and stop the unforced errors, but today was a worse than average day with errors. Knobel was pretty good today and even around the ground he was ok. He even outmuscled Ottens and outmarked him. I wouldn't drop Tivva yet. He had a shocker, but his kicking is important around the ground, but keep him out of the middle :D. Chaffey, Graham and Hall would be the first to go. I wish Schultz was fit.

Pretty game to say we have every chance against Freo. It may be in Melbourne but they just smashed the reining Premiers and have one of the best midfields in the league. Today we came up against one of the other best midfields going around and were cleaned up.

Wouldn't expect Tambling to play next week either. Looks like his toe still isn't right. He played out the 2nd half at Coburg, but really wasn't able to give 100%.

What we saw today was a top running midfield which we were powerless to stop. Just showed how slow ours is.
What also hurt was their straight kicking (especially in the second).Really pi..sed me off actually.
Oh well, first game

We did beat Freo in the practise match.. Near to a full strenght Fremantle side..
Id expect a good contest.. but cannot expect a win.

Wasn't really a near to full strength Freo side, they had more regulars missing than we did.

Patience is the key, I think we all got fooled a bit by good preseason form, some (who tipped us to win) more than others.

Today's game should be a learning exercise though, Geelong are a genuine top four side and it was clear to see today what we have to do to get that level.

It's hard not to be too negative about it all, but I get the feeling we won't really start charging up the ladder until a lot of the guys currently on our list are gone, and replaced by the kids coming through. It would be a lot easier to teach these kids the right skills and technique than it would be to a bloke whose been in the system for many years. I've tried to hold out hope that these guys would come good again, but it is looking less likely. The problem I have is that blokes like Tiv and Chaff have had great seasons in the past, and have shown they have good skills. For some reason they just can't get it back.

It's very disappointing when the senior guys are the ones out there letting the team down. At least we still have half a dozen blokes who will push hard for selection against the Hawks.

harsh on Richo,he was good as usual we kicked at his feet and above his head.no spark at all and dumb footy all day.same players making same mistakes as before.what is andy kellaway in the team to do,slow off the mark and terrible disposal cant believe that guy is playing afl footy.hope that is not our centre square setup all year or we are going to get smashed!!!!!!

The problem for you guys was that although you scored 16 goals worth of points, you let in 160 points to one of the least recognised forward lines in the competition. Having said that, though, Hawthorn's forward line today was nonexistant, you should be able to handle that. Good luck next week, Tiges.

We scored enough, but let Geelong score to much, the holes in our defence showed today.

I think as a doggie fan that was always Terry Wallace achilles heal.

He needs a good defence coach sitting next to him which he didnt have at the dogs.

Hartigan a definate
Raines a good chance
Meyer had a good 1st half and last yesterday for coburg-chance.

Moore did nothing yesterday still unfit-no chance
Tambling why did he play yesterday?his toe is still troubling him.

why drop graham? At least when he came on yesterday he gave some bite around the fwd line.

cheers!

Geelong had the kicking boots on yesterday. I think it was like 25 goals 10 points which is an excellent strike rate. They kicked goal after goal from all sorts of angels and that was probably the one thing that killed us. If they had missed a few during that second quarter I think we would have been a bit closer. The confidence levels still arn't up enough to handle the opposing side kicking 4 or 5 in a row. 4 goals to any other team is ok but to us it normaly blows out to 8 or 9 in which instance the game is gone. Anyway I would expect it to happen a bit this year just have to take it on the chin. On a good note though Pettifer played a good game out of the forward line.

How did Stafford go we could probably use him as something different in the ruck or another tall up forward just to give an option in the goalsquare to allow Richo and Simmonds to push up the ground.

Also wouldn't drop Mark Graham definetly wasn't the worst player yesterday did alright when he came on and at least gave 100% each contest when he was playing CHF/HF.

i thought campbell was terrible and should be dropped along with chaffey and tiv but it is difficult to get the experience/youth combination correct.

Say what you like about Campbell but he had more of the ball than anyone else and from more limited opportunites. He also created at least 4 goals through clever use of the ball in the forward line including goals to Tuck and Richardson.

you got that right. Based on what I saw this afternoon if the Tiges can score 15 goals against Geelong thay will be too good for our boys.

Anyone can score 15 goals against a reserve side defence. That's what Geelong fielded without Harley, Milburn, Sanderson and Mooney. Hawks should score easily against Bitchmond.

I'd like you to tell me which other player we can bring into the team that can give us 20 odd effective disposals from three quarters of footy.

Campbell may be moving horribly, but he still has more of a footy brain than anyone in the side and can still find the ball when standing on the spot.

Campbell had a reasonable game, better than most on our team, I can't believe people are still trying to use him as a scapegoat.
