Later in the evening,
I can just imagine,
You put on Junior Murphy,
And push the tables back.

And you'll dance with Rita,
I know you really like her,
Just don't hold her too close
oh brother please don't stab me in the back!

I didn't mean to say that!
It's just the mind it plays up!
It multiplies these matters,
turns imagination into fact!

You know I love her BADLY,
She's the one to SAVE me,
Gonna make some gravy,
Oh yeah tell em all I'm sorry,

Tell em all I'm sorry....

Before too long, we'll be together
and no-one will tear us apart
Before too long, the words will be spoken
I know all the actions by heart
As the night-time follows day
I'm closing in
Every dog will have his day
Any dog can win

Shut the shade, do not fear any more
Here I come creeping round your back door

I've always thought that song is more than a bit stalkerish, kind of like Every Breath You Take.

I thought this was going to be one of those "what would you do" threads with a certain situation happening on this bus. Was disappointed.

They got married early, never had much money
Then when he got laid off they really hit the skids
He started up his drinking, then they started fighting
He took it pretty badly, she took both the kids
She said: "I'm not standing by, to watch you slowly die
So watch me walking, out the door, out the door, out the door"
She said, "Shove it, Jack, I'm walking out the ****ing door!"

She went to her brother's, got a little bar work
He went to the Buttery, stayed about a year
Then he wrote a letter, said I want to see you
She thought he sounded better, she sent him up the fare
He was riding through the cane in the pouring rain
On Olympic to her door, to her door, to her door, to her door

He came in on a Sunday, every muscle aching
Walking in slow motion like he'd just been hit
Did they have a future? Would he know his children?
Could he make a picture and get them all to fit?
He was shaking in his seat riding through the streets
In a silvertop to her...
shaking in his seat riding through the streets
In a silvertop to her door, to her door, to her door, to her door

Maybe rename this to a Paul Kelly appreciation thread?

If anyone hasn't read his autobiography, I'd thourghly recommend it. Beautifully written, as you'd excpect, and quite differenet to other autobiographies in that it is non-linear and based around 100 songs tour that he did a few years back. I have a signed first of it.

When I was in Germany a few years back I was trying to figure out the best way to get from Stuttgart to London. Being a backpacker I was very close to booking a 30-hour bus ride to save a few bucks. Luckily chose the 5-hour flight.

Same as me Crazyman, I wanted to get to Estonia for a festival from Poland.

I could either go Poland- London- Tallinn via plane and pay 400 euros. which would have taken 10 hours with the layovers.

or i could go Poland- Lithuania- Latvia- Estonia and pay 1 euro on the bus which takes 14 hours.

Of course I took the bus.

Long story short, got seated next to a Polish woman, with a Mitchell Johnson moustache who was drunk and passed out on my shoulder and snored the whole journey there.

Longest 14 hours of my life.

It's 13 hours on a bus FFS

**** I must've been pretty pissed... I only barely remember posting this thread, and I fully know it's 13. Why on earth did I put in 30? Completely gone mentally by that time I'd suggest.

Gonna go order it on the back of this recommendation. He's one of the best we've produced.

I did Karratha to Perth once - 20 hours from memory. And I actually remember listening to a Paul Kelly tape most of the way. (Was his new album, So Much Water So Close To Home)

Junior Murvin
