Werribee surprised everyone and defeated the highly-fancied Port Melbourne for the 1993 VFA Premiership.

With that in mind, I thought I'd try and start a where are they now thing. The final score that day at Princes Park, was Werribee 10.8.68 to Port 4.4.28. The game will be remembered for the invasion at about the 20 minute mark and the brawl on the final siren (not to mention the mud!)

Captain-Coach Donald McDonald: These days an assistant coach at Hawthorn, Werribee can be very thankful towards McDonald. Also coached Box Hill to it's first flag and Werribee to a losing grand final against Springvale.

Lynton Fitzpatrick: A police officer in Werribee, Lynton remains at Werribee, as an assistant coach.

Joskun Aziz: Despite a quiet day that day, "Big Jack" was the reason why Werribee got to the grand final, after a big haul of goals at Moorabbin the previous week, in the preliminary final against Springvale.

Andrew Button: Very good player, but under-rated by many outside the team. His performance in the grand final (including kicking the sealer) is remembered fondly.

I remember that - because I taped it as I was in Adelaide that weekend. Didn't keep it though because it was a terrible game. The fireworks were early as well as late.

I went to two grand finals that weekend. Kilburn v Broadview at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday up in the Bradman stand - where some Adelaide Uni supporters had one of the corporate boxes and were watching with delight and then horror as the Crows had Essendon beat and then threw it away. On Sunday I was out at Richmond for Henley v Pooraka.

Yeah I remember playing in a Junior Colts premiership for Crystal Brook in country SA and then going home and having the day spoilt by Essendons come from no where win, it took the crows years to get over it.

1993 SAAFL A1 Senior Grand Final

Broadview 14.7 (91) defeated Kilburn 9.17 (71)

I don't remember much about the game now - except that there was a light show (thunder as well) up north (Bradman Stand gave a perfect view of it!)

I did see Kilburn got the spoon. A quick check reveals that the last time they were in the second tier was in 1988 (won the A2 flag from Rostrevor). Just as a matter of interest - Broadview have been in the top tier since 1977!!

1993 - Alastair Lynch becomes Alastair Kevorkian through pulling the plug on Fitzroy.
1993 was the last year in which Fitzroy had a decent season.

The year after they only won 4 matches.
The year after that, only 2.
After that, 1.
And after that ... *sob*

dont blame everything on Alastair Lynch. Ross Oakley, the AFL, the Fitzroy board, all the fitzroy players leaving, the NARU goverment, the Fitzroy supporters not supporting Fitzroy, have to cop some of the balme as well

Alastair Lynch not the sole blame

-sniffle-

What a grand, grand day. First premiership for West Torrens in 40 years, first ever for Woodville, first as a merged club ... AND a flogging of Norwood in the process!!

Oh yeah. And it's almost 50 years since West Torrens won their last flag as a single club.

West Torrens 9.13.67
Port Adelaide 8.12.60

:D
