The Blues will not, I repeat, will not win the spoon this year. Some of you may have pencilled them in for it and might actually have convinced yourself of it being true, but they wont. Reason being their great NAB Cup form, over the last couple of years this competition has been a great indicator to the success of sides in the regular season.

Who can forget the Cats of 2006, won the Cup in Adelaide, flogged the first 2 teams they played and were practically being written up as GF certainties and missed the finals. Then there was the Blues side of 2005, who also won, beating a quality side like WCE in the NAB Cup GF only to fall flat and win the first of 2 consecutive spoons.

So heading into 07 season Blues fans once more have got their hopes up and will probably win the first round or 2 and their fans will get so excited they might even start sleeping at the G to make sure they are first in line for finals tickets, bit of a tip, the side needs to win 5 games more in one season than they have for the past 2 combined to be a chance. But rest assured they will not win the spoon, well they hope so anyway. 3 in a row might just send them right over the edge.

Essendon won the preseason comp in 2000, lost one match all year and won the premiership if i remember correctly... using past history to prove a point for an upcoming fixture doesnt always work, nice try though sunshine ;) .

Iread the OP and can you tell me where is it stated that the Blues will win the spoon. From what I got he said they wont. Also seems to indicate that they wont make finals either.

A large part of it relies on how well they cope with their Round 1 thrashing mentally. Living in straw houses could see everything crashing down on them very suddenly. Hopefully they can deal with such a damaging loss so soon after their fantastic NAB wins. Might revert back to their old ways of blaming teammates and cheating.

That is a very good thought. The Blues could get a little too confident after thrashing the Tigers in Round 1. Hopefully the club realizes that the Tigers are just a really bad team and that most teams will give it to them hard this year.

Great thread! If he wasnt a freo supporter, I would have thought that Rove McManus was the witty writer.

How about your next thread being something along the lines of: "It's official: Terry Wallet is genetically linked to sultanas".

So you think they will beat your own team?
