So can someone please explain in what situation we would finish 17th or 18th?

How much do Brisbane need to lose by for us to avoid the spoon?

thanks to a post on the mb, reckon the Lions will give up fairly quickly if the Saints are on, so the spoon may be ours, or maybe not...maybe

Between the appointment of Woosh, the emergence some young talent and a few wins, this year has been successful as could be expected.
*Avoiding the spoon all thanks to Carlton is the cherry on top.

*Praying to footy Jebus this one works out for us tomorrow.

I actually enjoyed it more than last season.

Agree in some regards. Everytime I went to watch us play, (which unfortunately for me was every game in melb, except melb and gc) I felt like everyone in the sash gave their all and gave a shit. At times in the past few years, I haven't necessarily felt that way.

Surprisingly, this year has been one of my most enjoyable years. It's been great seeing the fans rally together and seeing the young boys step up and play their hearts out all season. This year and the last 4 years truly do prove us as the best fans in the league

I really dreaded this season around January but truthfully its turned out way better than i expected. A few things I enjoyed (OK more than a few i kept thinking of more things to add):

Worsfold as coach - Not only did I enjoy his coaching and his positive message but having someone that was completely non Essendon and non saga involved meant that all the media about the saga got washed away. It made a big difference.
The mature player finds late in the draft: Tippa, Hartley, Brown
The young players improving or coming into the side: Fantasia, Parish, Langford, Laverde, McKenna, Gleeson as well as cameos from Francis, Long and Redman.
Young players taking on huge leadership roles and responsibility: Daniher and Merrett (who has now become an elite player). With these 2 and Heppell we have some great young leaders.
Having an actual ruckman that could win some hitouts - by far our biggest problem onfield last year.
The biggest thing was also the team always tried. Even when we were down by miles - we would often fight back in the last quarter (which saved us from a couple of 100 point beatings). I actually felt like we gave more 4 quarter efforts this year than we have in other years with much better teams.
Watching our forward line developing throughout the year: It started off rubbish but as time went on we started moving the ball better and we started to find some players that could really help in that area until it started to look like a real forward line and not just a collection of players that stood in the forward 50. Not to mention I can now list with confidence guys like Daniher, Fantasia, Laverde, Langford, Tippa that I truly believe can all be part of a successful forward line next year. Plus finally had someone kick over 40 goals in a year!

So the season is over, its turned out an okay season, plenty of good young kids to get excited about, a club that is well run off the field, a supporter base that for the most part has remained united, its said that you know the quality of people when the chips are down, I guess we can say that as a club, we are a strong club.

roll on 2017!

Being far removed distance wise this year, I've appreciated and enjoyed this board this year. The highs and lows and emotion of watching us this season has come through with all of your posts and made me feel like I was back in Melbourne. This season has been anything but a write off and maybe we will look back on it in a few years as one which helped lead to our success. I hope anyway. Well done to all of you for sticking fat til the end and thank you to the players for giving it their all in what shaped as a difficult year.

Pardon the interruption but I recall enjoying 1999 immensely when we won the spoon. Once you realise early on that your side isn't contending, it's fun to watch the development of kids and applaud their efforts. And even when they made mistakes you just laugh it off.

Congrats to Bomber fans for your faith in your club...and getting it back.

BTW I enjoyed listening to familiar old names like Daniher and Long as well as Buckley and Silvagni. Enjoy your summer

Was going to start a similar thread but I'll take this opportunity to air some sentiments.

Although I don't wear the navy blue tracksuit anymore, I would like to speak on behalf of all Essendon board mods, past and present, in thanking the very very vast majority of you for your brilliant and friendly discussion through the entire ordeal that our club has suffered through. You have made the job of the mods easier than we ever thought it could have been, and although a few of us didn't last the journey through other commitments, it's been a joy to be able to watch over the Essendon faithful of BigFooty through this saga. The boards of this site are richer for your presence and the constantly excellent level of discussion through the good times and bad.

Again, thank you all on behalf of all Essendon mods, past and present.

the only thing that I'm still genuinely bitter about the whole supplements saga is that we lost Ryder. particularly as he was approaching his prime and was as good as anyone on his day.

that hurt us way more than any other loss. Crameri, Melksham (lol), Carlisle (lol)... would still have Paddy back in a heartbeat.

damn good thing that Leuey came along!

it's awesome being a Bombers supporter. why? we can have the arse ripped out from under us, unfairly sanctioned, reduced to a reserves side / with Dads Army... and we still beat a full strength Carlton side.

shove that up your arse Carlton! you pea-hearted rabble.

Indeed..shove that right up your clacker bluebagger ####s.

I do miss Ryder, at his best he was brilliant but his best wasn't nearly often enough which is why he was often our barometer.

We will never know if Worsfold would have gotten him to where he could be but give me a consistent toiler like Luey every day.

Well done to everyone that kept following the boys this week by going every week. I've been living overseas all year and it was hard enough just following the scores and watching the occasional game when I could.

Can't wait to get back to Australia and get back to seeing the boys every week! Can't wait to see what the future brings.

was my favourite player...still miss him. Not popular on this board though!

Looking forward to seeing you all round 1 next year when we sell out our first game and announce that we are back in a big way.

Don't think I would have been able to survive with out the support of Essendon fans on here you guys have made me get through it.

Cheers.
