It's safe

It was the double chance system of the day. So dumb.

Last year they relied on a double chance and they would have had to do the same this year if they had've got through
Whatever system used, a team ends up premier.
We did it four times in a row.
That beats three in a row :D

It's safe, phew.

For those that like such things, disregard if you don't.
But the hawthorn era teams of the 70s then 80s then now yields such a formidable 22. No club can easily match it.
Just shows how much elite talent they've had.

B. Ayres Langford Burgoyne
HB. Hodge Knights Lewis
C. Platten Mitchell Crawford
HF. Brereton Franklin Riolli
F Dunstall Hudson Jarman
R Scott Tuck Matthews (c)
I. Salmon Roughead Buckenara Wallace

Hence all those flags.

Let's hope we develop more elite so we can over the next few decades match and surpass them

For Now.

GWS could be a Huge Worry in next few seasons
They haven't won any yet, but I share your concerns.

People forget that Hawthorn have been able to stay relevant through some generational footballers and free agency working in their favour.
The free agency factor should not be underestimated. I doubt GWS will be able to make use of this like the Hawks as western Sydney is not really that desirable for most.

Just like to post this for Hawthorn fan.
We should be noble in victory.

Clarko was sooooooooooooo salty when asked about matching our record.

Much salt, such bitter

Yeah, the competition back then wasn't what it is now, but then umps weren't on the take back then either.

What made me laugh the hardest was the whinge about the umpires, tacklers not being rewarded and holding the ball/incorrect disposal not being paid. Seriously, Clarko?!?! Get your hand off it, the most blessed team regarding iffy umpiring in the last 4 years and you're having a sook ... poor form.

Just watched that bit and had to stop.
There was one in the first couple of minutes, (Breust or Shiels) that was a clear dropping the ball.
Burgoyne is like Judd - never gets pinged.
Anyway enough about that.
They lost and now most Victorian supporters are barracking for the Dogs, (Hawks won't barrack for Cats).

Stats don't lie, have a sook Clarkson

Collingwood 1927-1930:

70 wins, 11 losses, 1 draw
winning percentage: 85%
longest winning streak: 20 games (SF 1928 to R18 1929)
1x back-to-back loss (R5/6 1930)

H&A ladder 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st

2 finals losses (SF 1929, PF 1930), 1 finals draw (SF 1928)
4 PREMIERSHIPS

Hawthorn 2013 to 2016:

78 wins, 22 losses, 0 draws
winning percentage: 78%
longest winning streak: 12 games (R2 2013 to R14 2013)
2x back-to-back losses (R8/10 2014 and QF/SF 2016)

H&A ladder 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd

3 finals losses (QF 2015, QF and SM 2016)
3 premierships

What does Hawthorn's record look like if you take them from 2012 to 2015?

Throw in the ONLY undefeated home-and-away season in the history of VFL/AFL as well :thumbsu:

Of the 1460 recorded home-and-away records across 120 years, only 1 team won every game. Collingwood 1929.

True story ...

I was just walking through a park. I saw three magpies foraging in the grass. I looked around thinking "there's got to be a fourth one around here somewhere" ... and sure enough there was :D

Here's the fourth ...

Now that I've come down off my elation, I think its only fair to give credit where its due and congratulate the Hawks on their success of the last few years. Seriously, they have been an extremely well-managed club, and credit to them.

Seeing some Hawks fans leaving early in the last quarter (albeit late in the quarter) was a bit rough. A bit of dignity and loyalty wouldnt go astray. Their team had them in four straight Grand Finals for three flags. Maybe staying until the game was over would have been a fitting way to say thank you for one of the great periods of dominance in AFL history, and to acknowledge the end of an era. Not the right time to sook it up in my view.

And the VFL match today a view of our future?
Ok, not really, but would be great to join that group of new competing sides

To rate the youth of club lists
1. GWS
2. WBD
3. Coll? / GCS? / Melb? - are the teams in that conversation for third.

We're up there amongst those better few, led by Grundy and Moore and others to follow. But others are catching up and well in that mix.

Your list sounds right with perhaps a bit of a gap between the top two and then the rest.

I totally agree our side will be built on the rocks of Grundy and Moore.
I'd throw in Treloar, De Goey, Maynard and my hope is Scharenberg.
The established Scott and Steele and Taylor adds the leadership as well.
Be interesting to observe the growth of our young ones.
If we get it more right than not, we will few in the mix, if not? Well, it won't end pretty.

As an aside quietly, I'm curious to observe Sier in the next year or two. That's just an aside, either a bonus or a bust, that is still to be determined.....

I'd love to see Sier come on but next year he will need to improve significantly to retain his list position. He has struggled with just getting his hands on the ball which as a midfielder you can't get away with. Then over the second half his season was derailed by injuries (various).

If he starts winning more of the ball, then he can have another year and from there it's about a sharp yearly improvement because he's a long way back at the moment.

Bit rich given his players haven't been required to dispose of the ball when being tackled for the better part of 3 years. I mean, in the first quarter alone Breust was caught 2 or 3 times red handed with no free awarded. Over the entire first quarter, they must have been caught at least 5 or 6 times. No free.

Correct.
Like also for mentioning Melbourne Cupwinner of 1967 Red Handed.

Guys apparently we're not allowed to celebrate Hawthorn losing.

Big Footy fun police said so.

Eh? Wotchu talkin 'bout Willis?

It's our democratic right to dump on whichever team we see fit within the sanctuary and confines of our own board. :D
