this season is already down the gurgler so spencer should be blooded now with next season in mind...

Firstly, no side currently in the 8 with 3 successive home games to finish the season should ever think of next season. They should be aiming for 4 wins in 4 weeks - nothing less. I'm not being unrealistic but that must be the attitude.

Things to remember about our young tall guys - they are our least experienced players. Go through the names - Playfair, Mackie, Lonergan, Spencer, Egan, Nathan Ablett, Buckland. How many apart from Playfair have played even 20 games? It's a bit soon to start writing these guys off immediately. We've seen with Hunt and Playfair how dramatically players can improve once they become ready. Guys like Gardiner have had lots of chances, the guys mentioned above (excepting Playfair) haven't.

I just want to say congratulations for a fantastic post! :) An excellent summary!

Surprised that he hasn't been tried up foward, I would think that being able to run quick in a straight line but not turn would be handy for a FF (eg Lockett), but not sure about a CHB.

I personally hope he gets a go because he sounds like a good kid and he's a WA boy :)
You are right WestCat, he played all his junior footy at CHF and in the ruck, has a good leap can take a grab and is a pretty good set shot for goal.
Will definately give you 100%

So do i.

I want to see what he's got at the top level. You're never going to know for sure if he's got what it takes if you never give him a chance.

We need another legit tall, Domsy has had a few games, might be Frank's time.

I reckon his lateral movement is suspect, but he's quick when running in a straight line.

His turning arc is quite large.

ok so if we were to have the Spencer express running in one direction, and the G-train in the other, which unit would have the most crumple damage?

Not time for the kid yet. While he held the VFL leading goalkicker, James Podsiadly, to 2 goals, Podsiadly in fact took 11 marks and kicked 5 behinds, stats which are not shown in the results.
Think it shows he has a bit of learning to do yet, but his time will come.

Put him on!

Would much prefer to read about a youngster that got beat - than a more experienced player made to look out of position.
