I have been trying to play down our chances all pre-season.

Although there is an interesting stat that since 1996 there has been one team from the bottom 8 that has made the top 4 the following year.

There is part of me that says we lost so many games by the narrowest of margins, with pretty much the same team we have now......so I hoping it can be us in '09.

yeah its good, the afl do well with their spacing of the drafts, preseason etc.... that way every month we generally have something to keep us occupied. smart move by the afl.... god knows the cricket isnt filling the void but then again it never does

Considering the season only lasts 6 months the AFL do a really good job of filling the off season and keeping footy in the headlines. After the Grand Final there's trade week in October, the draft camp and National Draft in November, the PSD and rookie drafts in December then the NAB Cup in February. The stretch from Christmas to the start of the NAB Cup is the only quiet time really.
