Ok now the season has finished officially for us it is time to look at improving our list and trimming it aswell.
What do we do in trade week? Trade for picks? Trade for players? Dont trade at all?

This is what i say.
-We have to keep our first pick.
-Key defender trade for, maybe Jon Hay?
-Draft another back up ruckman

Any other opinions are valued?

I already posted this on the footy nazi's board and quickly had it removed. Damn sure I don't know why. Anyway, we have picks 10, 26, and 42. I agree Wizard, we should keep our first pick, that is unless we manage to trade that pick up somehow. I already heard CC quote that he plans to use one of our picks to redraft one of our own players.

J Hay ... how tall is he exactly? Would he be another one of those high profile recruits who fails to live up to expectations in the purple? I wouldn't be upset if we got him but he dosn't fill me with excitement.

Probably I would prefer to draft a Kennedy, Clarke or Ryder if possible. Swallow is a guy who has been rated highly this year yet I have a feeling that he is going to be one of those guys who falls to the second round. It would be fanatastic if we could get two of those East freo guys.

PS. Looking back, signing McManus and Slofield to two year contracts was a BIG mistake. It will cost us two quality younguns this year.

Hays 196cm so he would definately solve our problem of the really big forwards. His skills are shocking though. Would have come cheaply halfway through the season but his last 5 or 6 games have been very good, so the price tag might be too high.

Kennedy, Clarke and Ryder are all in the best half dozen at this stage but we might still be able to pick one of them. Carlton, collingwood, hawthorn and essendon all need midfielders so while I'm certain KPP will go in the first 7 picks we might get lucky. If one of the 3 have a poor draft camp the chance of them slipping through will also increase. Clarke's probably the pick of the bunch but I like Ryder. He plays predominantly in the ruck which he wouldn't be tall enough to do on a permanent basis at AFL level but is great around the ground and very good in the air (could be compared to Adam Goodes). Swallow will probably go late teens early twenties but he was the sharks 2nd best player yesterday (behind Shauny Mac) which will help his prospects.

Agree with you on Macca and Schofield. McManus was almost delisted but got another contract partly because he's so popular among the fans which is a ludicrous reason to sign someone up.

I think people have been to hasty in writing off Polak, He is still only 21,and has a lot of growing up to do. He will fill out and get stronger, his best years are ahead of him and freo, have faith. This is your key defender of the future and an 'all australian' of the making. Remember this post

I think we've done enough of the quick fix, high paid imports.
Go with the kids they will not let you down.
This year has seen Mundy, Peake, Crowley, Murphy and Johnson come through. Not to mention the improvement in Sandilands. They will be far more loyal and valuable asets in the future.
Just get the right ones.
Clarke and Swallow were available last year but we overlooked them.

I'll go along with Sailor, don't go for the quick fix, keep going in the youth direction as we are slowly reaping the rewards of our youngsters coming through.

Need a fast midfielder (will Peake / Schammer fill this area?), Full Back (Haddrill big enough?). Availability of these players is the question. I'm not sold on Hay (cost v injurt prone).

I wouldn't go near Hay with a 40' barge pole... too injury prone - and he's getting on a bit.

However, having said that, I don't think at 188cm Haddrill is tall enough to be our long-term FB... plus he's spent the better part of a year out of the game. Someone around the 195cm mark would be preferable... and we have that in Polly, Johnson, Murphy and Warren (if elevated).

Plenty of possibilities - someone needs to stand up and say... that spot's mine.

We definately need a strong/tall defender a quick tall midfielder and a mature strong bodied defensive midfielder.

Ryley Dunn if we can get him on the paddock

I would stay away from Hay as well.

Don't forget that Polly started the season in good form until he hurt his knee and had a good game against the Saints after a shaky start.

Ill pay Johnson/Duffield but Scotty doesnt look the type to be able to bulk up quickly.
Dodd/Crowley....Dodd maybe, Crowley too short
Ryley Dunn - Great size a bit too slow IMO

not sure about the draft
i want the motivational team-building consultant ( can't remember his name)
who worked at Sydney last year & turned from 'the swans' to 'the bloods'. & it's the same guy who neil craig also rates highly & got in to work on Adelaide in the pre season this year
