Lets face it... We need him...

With the rule change to the ruck he is less chance of banging knees.

Would also release his tag. Other ruckmen will not be able to keep up with him.

Roosy, its time:thumbsu:

Nice idea but atm we need his creativity in the midfield.
Unless we can gain two hard running attacking midfielders that can do a good job, were not gonna see it.
Anyway i wonder how he would go in the ruck especially at the centre bounce?

Iv'e been big on this for a few years now. With Spider injured he would dominate in the ruck. Roosy wont do it though.
to me, obvious solution and would get LRT back into defence, where he belongs
don't get me wrong, he was triffic against saints, and there's no doubt he's fit, probly in the best shape and size of his career, but should be in defence
at least goodes has genuine, continued good form as a ruckman

Goodes had a terribe game. But can anyone have a good game whilst playing in those sort of conditions.

The Saints much talented midfield was also made to look mediocre.

The bottom line is that I don't know if putting goodes in the ruck is the answer to fixing the problem on a team scale. If we want the team to improve, then I think we should seek a modification to game style rather than changes in position.

chnages to overall gameplan require time and work on the training track
it would be reasonably fair to expect individual players to improve in the short term, and in goodes' case, forcing him to lift his workrate by playing him in the ruck would be a start

I was actually sitting very close to the bench on Saurday night and Roosy on more than one occassion had a go at Goodesy and his work rate. He just wasnt doing the hard running and that made Fisher's job a hell of a lot easier.

I wonder if sometimes players "forget" what its like to work hard, especially at the start of the season. Goodes rocks up to game 1, feeling in great shape having had a good pre-season, knows how he is when he is on song and just expects to take off from where he left off last season. He thinks he's working hard because it's his first real game and feels the effects of the increase in tempo from practice games. But maybe he's genuinely forgotten - temporalily - how hard it is he normally works to have the impact he is capable of.

I think it's interesting that Roos has gone public with his disappointment in Goodes' performance, and especially that he's done it so soon. No doubt he was frustrated in the first third of last year with one of his most potent weapons not performing, and probably even more frustrated being reminded how good Goodes is when he clicks into gear.

Why all the hysteria about one poor game.

Roos knows to put him back in the ruck and go down again with a knee injury would make him look damn stupid.

Roos knows his value to the team is on the ball. Why risk a knee that has already been weakened by an injury. Put him back into that jumping/landing regime and it won't take long for that knee to feel the affects.

Short memories folks. I don't know of a Swans supporter when at the time he did the injury, begged for him to go back into the ruck. Most shuddered and said, never again.

I still do nico. The odd one in the forward line that Jolly, Everett and co is ok but one poor game does not mean we should risk the man in a position that impacted so negitivly on his body in the past.

Goodes in the ruck, that is a stupid idea just leave him to play his natural game roaming around the ground.

He just does fine with that so lets just leave it alone.

I wouldnt mind seeing him across halfback with Malceski out, although early Mattner hasnt impresses thus far.

He can can still push up the ground, take backline/center ruck contests, allowing jolly and everitt to push into the forward line. He doesnt win a great amount of ball from centre bounces so i dont see the point of him being in there.

Playing him as our No1 ruckmen is a terrible idea, he was a revelation in that position because it was the first time we saw him free to roam the ground, before that he was mainly a semi effective KPP. He isnt as good tap ruckman as Jolly or Everitt, so why would we?

just let him roam around the ground,it's only one round.to me the form of micky o.will be more of a worry as we go forward.
maybe missing out on the captaincy might have affected him to some extent,in footy of this level you only need to be slightly off your game mentally to have a bad one.

geez, i hope it's not the captaincy thing with goodes, that would cast him in a poor light
i agree, micky o is more of a concern long-term ... goodes will bounce back, but not so sure about o'loughlin
still, he's made a mess of my predictions about him in the past

What long term future? Surely this is Micky Os last season..
He even said in an article late last year he would be happy to step aside for a younger player..

In the ruck or tagging, it'd be a knee-jerk reaction from Roos, unless they're getting beaten badly which would then require changes.
Agree to let him roam, he'll come good.
