Solved Ivan Milat - The Backpacker Murders

Do you have a link that puts Ivan Milat at Durak? The only reference I can find to a juvenile institution is Dunlea.

*Daruk

Interesting, Milat was at Dunlea 17yo and makes an appearance as notable alumni with Ben Lexcen who went on to design the winged keel on Australia II which won the America's Cup.

So boys, what do you want to be when you grow up? A serial killer or a marine architect?

Not a link but a person who was a witness or has witness statements. If they really wanted to know what was going on in their (Milats' and Murphys') heads they need to supeona documents from when they were there.

And this is why I am not a lock them up and forget them person

Certainly there are many that should be but there are also those that can make that conscious decision to take a different path

Unfortunately the national hero died of an early age & the monster lived far too long.

One made our nation proud & the other gave us a bad name & created a lost innocence.

I was going to say the same thing.

Such a shame- he was apparently a bright student. Until all that shit happened, then went downhill, got into petty crime and went from there.

There was a crime documentary I watched a while ago on what makes an ordinary person turn into a serial killer by studying their brain some interesting shit

There are so many serial killers who had bright futures as a kid and then one they decide to turn evil and start killing it's sad

As per Ivan Milat's death letter, he said the chaplain told him Corrective Services would pay for his funeral and the family wasn't to pay a cent. Then the chaplain rang Bill Milat and said they weren't going to pay for it after all.

So stingy Bill told the chaplain they have no intention of paying for his brothers funeral and "when they finish at the Coroner's Court, stick him back in the car and take him back to Long Bay and they can decide what they want to do ... " :tearsofjoy:

I think there are 14 siblings all up.

Wants the government to pay for his funeral after all the killings he did lol rot in hell Ivan

Police have said over their dead bodies they'll be paying. His body is "on ice" apparently.

Havent even been contacted by the Milats, lol

the whole ivan milat thing about trying to get him to confess to other unsolved murders does my head in: police had over half a dozen interviews-bedside or otherwise to try and get him to admit but he was never going to , anyone knows that but heres what should have happened: twenty years ago someone should have got in his ear and said: in a couple of months time there will be two detectives come to interview you about other murders if you tell them the truth you will serve out the rest of your sentence quietly, if you don't tell them what they want the rest of your life will be made miserable-not a bashing every day (although that would have been nice) but just rough treatment and annoyance to make life miserable

Very likely.

If you read the Forensic reports where there was multiple victims for the same abduction, there were usually 2 types of killings. 1 was very structured & controlled execution, whilst the other was unstructured & frenzied... which suggests 2 people were involved.
Dr Rod Milton was the Forensic Psychiatrist who profiled the offender/s. Chief Superintendent Clive Small has noted in his book, Milat, that Dr RM stressed his conclusions were only informed guesswork; although it seems his guesswork was eerily accurate, at least in part/s.

According to CS, Dr RM never wavered from his conclusion that there had been more than one offender; because, perhaps amongst other things, there were multiple victims in 3 of the 4 seperate incidents. He notes that different weapons apparently point to method of subduing multiple victim/s followed by method of achieving the offender’s underlying motive.

CS refers to 3 other incidents, separate to the 4 known incidents involving the 7 known Belanglo victims; namely, the alleged abduction of 2 female hitchhikers in 1971; the alleged abduction and alleged rape involving 2 females in 1977, for which IM was later acquitted; and the attempted abduction of Onions on 25 Jan 1990. He suggests those 3 separate incidents provide a window into IM’s MO; he notes that IM acted alone on all 3 occasions.

CS recounts that evidence was led by prosecution, at IM's trial, that photographs indicated that IM was absent from a family gathering on the December 26 1991; being the day on which German couple Anja Habschied and Gabor Neugebauer were last seen. What stood stood out for me, was that no mention was made of any other family member having missed that gathering; at least not from what I have been able to gather.

if you're interested in this case, I highly recommend Clive Small's book, Milat; Inside Australia's Biggest Manhunt - a Detective's Story.

New two parter coming on Milat where Xanthe Mallett and Tim Watson-Munro name who they believe to be the rest of Milat's victims. Some around the Newcastle region and south Queensland I think.

No date yet for when it comes out that I can see.

Not sure if there might be something new? As you said, we'd think investigators would have already explored that.

I just think how in the hell did he move all the bodies around. He killed men as well as women, so much heavier.

Eh their whole family is ****ed in the head tbh.

He could have had help sometimes. If it wasn't for Paul Onions getting away on the highway and risking making a run for it I think there would be even more questions about how he handled more than one and more specifically the men, the German couple Anja Habscheid and Hans Neugerbauer who was a big bloke. I might have spelled the names wrong, going from memory here.

Big problems with that family and it seems to be generational. I drove into Belanglo one time and got the jeevies, I couldn't wait to get out of there and I'm quite comfortable in the bush.

I'd want to go. Just cause im completely morbid and into that stuff. Would like to see the memorial stone too- pay respects.

There used to be a crime tour in Melbourne actually. Not a haunted type crap one (ive done that) but an actual one where they take you to famous crime scenes. Went to go book it, and just had completely disappeared.

It was a few years ago I was in there, in a 4WD with one of the dogs so thought I should be okay and was barrelling along then the light turned, it became really eerie as if the dark was coming on too fast. Like I'd lost track of time or something, I passed a ute with two dodgy looking characters in it and that was enough for me to want to be out of there before it got too black. I stopped at one point to let the dog out of the car and I couldn't hear anything either, no birds .. nothing. The atmosphere was kind of flat and weird. If you go, go early in the day.

Yeah I would go on one of those. lol

I went in there back in 2017 whilst on my way from Adelaide to Sydney. I have a strong interest in Australian crime and Belanglo along with Barrow Creek and Blue Rock Dam have always been high on my bucket list, anyway, i wanted to see the memorial so in i go with Wife and inlaws driving my Falcon wagon, got up to the road which leads you to the memorial, its really undulating so im creeping along and then suddenly i bottom out coming up out of one of the hollows, never in my life have i ever felt as panicked as i did in that moment, getting my passengers out so i could get moving took serious persuasion and once free we got out of there in a real hurry.

On another note, when i lived in the Campbelltown area back in the mid 90's i had a client who lived about 6 houses down from his house in Eaglevale, he was well and truely locked away by then but stopping outside it and envisioning the media pics of the same view was sobering.

I've always believed there we're more victims in other parts of the state and beyond.

Yeah i dont believe in ghosts or anything but i do believe in perhaps bad karma.. just something. Not shocked in the slightest the place gave you the creeps.

Re tours the Jack the Ripper tour in London is fantastic. Also Geelong Gaol- more of a haunted angle.. but still would recommend.

The haunted melb city tour is shit.
