Not gonna lie and I said this before, it was always a strange decision to be chasing both Sweet and Soldo considering their age profiles at the time within the same trade period and what Port overpaid to acquire Soldo.

It’s not rocket science that the trade backfired spectacularly halfway through 2024 and the people who thought to acquire him need to be held accountable.

Not strange in the position we were in, our ruck division was thread bare.
At the time I was happy with Ivan Soldo coming over and he started pretty well unfortunately got injured and it’s gone from bad to worse since.

The injury sucks and he was good depth but I think seeing the back of the Soldo’s and Hinkley’s in 6 months has made me the happiest I’ve been with the clubs position since about 2013.

He didn’t want to be here on a big contract and we don’t have to deal with his brain surgeon missus’ opinions anymore. As the kids say, vibes are up.

Of all the players to go down with an acl, ivan is the one i couldnt give less of a **** about. Certainly wasnt adding anything and if by some chance he actually played again, we would already have been well ****ed.

Whilst it may be true and unfortunate for Soldo, it's no doubt planned in some way or a blessing in disguise to how be able to select more in SSP or perhaps mid season draft if needed and a player who would actually bring something to the table. Couldn't see Ivan actually contributing meaningful or anything of substance to the team anyway. Good news in my eyes. Only downside is having to yet again pay for an injury prone player who clearly doesn't give a rats rear end about the club.

It’s his last season anyway out of contract seasons end.
Good if we can replace him with anything including a carbon rod

Sucks for him personally. Does not affect the AFL team whatsoever, but it stretches our ruck stocks thin for the SANFL

Odd situation. Terrible to see a player go down with a 12 month injury.

But I also don't recall ever seeing a player so checked out and waiting out the last 12 months of his contract.

So maybe it affects the SANFL team, but we're not really short an AFL player. If Dante and Sweet were both injured this season, I'm still not sure Soldo would have definitely been selected (unless his approach drastically changed).

Knee injuries are always bad news and an ACL rupture the worst.

I suspect that 1 of the 2 places on the list that can be filled by adding a player in the SSP time frame, will now be a ruckman. Its just stupid going into the season with 2 healthy uninjured ruckman.

Not sure if we can put Soldo on the Long Term Injury list now, and take 3 players in the SSP or we can only take a 3rd player in the mid season draft.

Magpies should also go sign a 200-205cm player from a community club as extra depth. Maybe some of those young South Sudanese giants who play a bit of footy and lots of basketball.
