Great comments. Ryder should be pretty embarrassed right now. Goalkicking kilked us too, we kick 4 of the multitude of set shots and we probs my win.

I often wonder wether this squad is scared of success, we find ways to fail too often.
I often wonder that too. Killer instant is lacking but they've been trained to be nice. Effort was fantastic but second week in a row we could have won but we didnt take it. Big improvement but I want to see ruthless

Yeah, one of those goals was that bullshit free wasn't it? And the other three were just because he was tall AND good.
The free was a blocking free on Jonas because he tried to protect Hartlet and he was stupid enough to grab a jumper, so umpires always pay that.

White had 63% TOG. If he did bugger all, why did he have the third highest amount of tackles with 5?
And how many were ball and all tackles because I didnt see to many by Port today. the GWS regularly got the ball free out of our tackles

Yeah, he couldn't run it out, but I'd rather he get time in a game like that which is tough than against a Carlton or a Brisbane where we really should be putting them to the sword.

Eddy would NOT have helped in the last - it's the one spot in the side where White and Monfries being injured actually means we are thin on numbers because they both play that high half forward role.
Well if you can theorise about the last then I will theorise about the first 3 and say that if he played he would have had enough inside 50's to get enough of the ball and kick straighter than one small bloke he should of replaced who can not kick to AFL standard.

Powell-Pepper had similar stats to White from 66% TOG and no one is saying he was the reason we lost.
That's because he is a kid who is being managed in his first year and played all 3 JLT games and 3 games so far. You shouldn't be managing a 30 year old who you have only played in half a JLT game and half a sanfl trial after being injured in the preseason. Pick him when he is fit to play 90% game time. Its why I didnt want Austin picked because he wasn't fit enough either.

I'm glad we played the way we wanted to play rather than the way that would have 'limited the damage' - because for three quarters, we were right in it and should have been in front if we had finished off our good work. But when you keep ******* up kicks for goal, it means you have to work harder than you would have normally had to in the forward line to defend kick-ins instead of getting a rest when the ball resets back in the centre.

Once GWS piled on a couple of quick goals, our forwards checked out of the game, and it all went to shit.
The ball didn't go up forward enough and cleanly enough in the 4th quarter for them to check in.

We've played probably the best and second best sides in the comp (you can decide which is which) in the past two weeks. No other side has to do this. Now, at 2-2, we've got the opportunity to gather some momentum.
2-2 is where I expected us to be, thought we would beat Freo and Adelaide, but the way we play when the weather is good given winter is coming, especially given our average skills, and our selections, we will be in the 12-14 win range as I expected before the season started.

Ryder deserve a massive kick up the arse for getting reported. He opens it up for Ken to make stupid selection decisions for big games.

One of the greatest fallacies in footy is, 'we had enough shots on goal to win, we just didn't kick accurately'.

The reality is the tactics from a 'kick out' from a behind is entirely different to a centre bounce after a goal. There is absolutely no guarantee a team will get the same shot on goal as the whole dynamics and tactics are different.

GWS didn't have to play against Adelaide the week before. Look at what they are doing to Essendon - do you think our performance against them just 'happened', like how GWS was shit for 3 quarters 'just happened'? We made them look shit. But you've got to be realistic about what players can and can't do. You can't back up a marathon with another marathon and expect to finish first.

I reckon Hinkley said to the boys 'Try to win, but if they go ahead by three goals, just shut down and save your legs for Carlton'. The last thing we need is to lose a game against those ****s by pursuing an 'honorable loss' in a game that we had no chance of winning.

We fight the fights we can win.

Two hard games in a row - sorry, I really can't find the words.

It was soft as butter.

We were well down on our tackle count - again, because of fatigue from the game before. The fact that White had so many from only that much game time shows that.

And I'll say if Eddy played in the first 3 we wouldn't have even got close because GWS would have ran the ball down his wing every time.

That's because he is a kid who is being managed in his first year and played all 3 JLT games and 3 games so far. White playing 63% game time would have been due to others playing his role. He doesn't stay on the ground all the time - he swaps with Sam Gray and Aaron Young. Eventually, it will be Gray who has 63% game time...and then Monfries will come back, and Gray will go out of the side.

The ball didn't go up forward enough and cleanly enough in the 4th quarter for them to check in.
So why didn't the drop into the midfield and clog it up like they were supposed to? Because they were too tired I guess.

I don't care how we get there as long as we get there.

Janus, your theories get crazier with every year. Hinkley advised them to shut up shop if they fell behind by 3 goals in the last? He asked them to do that at 3/4 time?

Talk about changing a story to suit a narrative.

Getting really hard to take anything you post seriously.

So we think that Austin would have done better on Patton do we?

Clurey wasn't the problem. It came down to the complete and utter loss of shape in our front half which allowed easy ******* ball off of half back and across to the other wing. How easy did they transition in that last? But yeah, Eddy would have really helped with that.

We did fine for three quarters, but as soon as our players started to tire after playing in a Showdown the week before and couldn't get across, GWS exploited the space and Patton started to get the one on ones with Clurey that they were looking for.

Austin wouldn't have made the difference. Eddy wouldn't have made the difference. What would have made the difference is a) playing Ryder to give us easy ball out of centre clearances (every mid was down today) b) playing Hombsch on Patton (a far better defender than Clurey) c) not playing GWS when they are still full of run at the start of the season d) not playing GWS after a Showdown e) not playing GWS away.

See ya later.
Sometimes you are just plain silly.

You didn't mention White in your blind coach-defense.

Then blasted a stalwart of the club who is just having a dummy-spit a few minutes after a coach-debacle.

White playing or not playing didn't cost us the game - he played so we could keep our forward shape and hem the Giants into their back half by having players who could come off the bench and help out - and for three quarters we did it really well. Then they got overrun in the midfield losing too much contested ball and that was game.

Man, for a game no one thought we had any chance to win at the start of the season you're all taking this loss really hard...

Thats drawing a fairly long bow from what I said.
We have a long history of losing to shit teams over the last 3 or 4 years because we dont get up for some games.
They don't anymore.
They did prior to Sanderson being moved on.
Well as I've repeatedly said, wins in these first four weeks were a bonus. It's the other 18 games that will decide Ken's fate.

Where in your preview did mention that the fatigue from the Adelaide game was going to cost us?? So both you and Ken basically picked the wrong sort of players because if the fatigue was going to be so great we should have made 5 changes of players who were 100% fit players to negate it.

In reality, there are 66 games that will decide Ken's fate. And we've already played 48 of them. Time is running out. The next month (Carlton home, Brisbane away, West Coast home, GC neutral) is absolutely critical. We need to find a way to win at least 2 of those or the wolves will be firmly at the door.

People rarely fundamentally change, they just finesse around the edges unless they get a great shock and that is a driver to cause fundamental change. Over those 48 games we have seen Ken hasn't fundamentally changed he is just finessing because he hasn't received his great shock.

When Ryder got suspended we were max a 10% chance of winning. Its almost as if Ken said, bugger that, I don't like 10%, I want to gamble and make it 3.147869% chance. That's what frustrating.

Well if you listen to Ken's press conference, he basically said that for three quarters we matched them, and then fatigue got us in the end because they dominated us in the last by 80+ possessions in that quarter. In fact, he said we matched them pretty well on every stat line but then they stepped it up and we just couldn't go with them. He's never going to use it as an excuse because that gives the players an out, but it's just reality. It happens after every Showdown - that's why it's more important who you play the week after.

I reckon we play that game after ANZAC day, we win.

The next 2 games are probably the most critical so far this season.

Put the plebs to the sword like we couldn't do consistently in 2015-2016 and you can fairly say we've improved.

Results so far suggest we're much better than we were - but 2015-16 were under Ken's watch so losses to one of Carlton & Brisbane would be a regression to the mean and probably Hinkley's death blows.
