Who is the most respected and successful current AFL coach? Alistair Clarkson.
Prior to taking the reigns at Hawthorn Clarkson had coached senior premierships in the SANFL and had a very solid grounding as an assistant at AFL level.

Nathan Basset has coached senior premierships in his own right at Norwood and has had a solid grounding as an assistant at two AFL clubs. He's smart, calculated in his approach, and prepared to deliver home truths where needed.

Others may disagree but my feeling is Nathan Basset is the next great AFL coach in waiting. The fact he's been prepared to wait until he feels he's ready, bide his time, and not jump at the first opening that comes along like so many have before him just makes him more appealing to me. And we already have him in our ranks. He's ours to lose.

Bring in Bass.

I was just thinking this morning that Bassett is similar to Clarkson but I reckon Clarkson has a better sense of humour. My one reservation with Bassett is that he is a very serious operator and his intensity may be detrimental to player burn out.

BUT, you would rather we churn through a list via burnout while winning shit, than loaf along because "I trust this group to deliver (another showdown loss)"

I dunno, Bass seems pretty affable when he's up on the balcony with the AFL players watching Magpies games. Reckon he knows how to reign in that side of his personality pretty well when need be.

Ken was the coach we needed when he came on board. He's done great thigns for our club and I don't hold any malice towards him.

However, his stubbornness with selections and apparent confusion during games menas he has to go.

I'd be happy for Bassett to take the reins. I'd also like to see Henschel and Nicks go. Neither have shown anything in their time at the club that says they have what it takes. Bring in some fresh thinking.

I know I'm a real softy when it comes to the people at our club, but as much as we all seem to agree that Ken's time here may be up, I really hope that it if he is to go that it is done properly. Knowing KT I think it would be.

I just went to check Basset's record as Norwood coach.

68W/23L= 75% winning ratio. 3 GFs and a prelim for two flags in 4 years. Pretty impressive.

+1 for Bassett. One of the few coaches that hasn't triggered me during interviews, speaks well, knows his shit and has a bit of angry campaigner about him. Looks to be a good choice on merit. KT surely would have him lined up for 2019, possibly 2018.

Added bonus: He'll be a media darling in this state

Very few coaches have serious longevity at one club and like the players, turnover is to be expected. I am just really hoping that Ken gets the Suns job, we save money and we get a new coach who is not their mate and not afraid to make the hard decisions. Good luck at the Suns Ken.

To be successful we have to continually cull and change our list. We need to demand the best always from players or move them on. Our coach is not there to be a loving protective parent to them. It is a business and if they are not performing they need to be shown the door. Oh can our new coach actually play at least 2 KPFs please.

Maybe that should be the first question when they do the shortlist, oh, and maybe even write it in as a condition in their contract.

What's the bet the last piece of quality from our coaching panel will leave in Bassett..ken won't hold him back because "Port Adelaide produces great people" and we shouldn't stand in there way for bigger and better opportunities.....

Imagine we held onto some of these people.. we might actually have a flag. Instead we have lost everyone that had a ounce of football knowledge and replaced them with failed products like Lade and Voss to support a bloke who was passed up for a coaching gig for over a decade #bestmanstanding
