I could be looking too much into it but it's a bit concerning seeing him dropped so late in the season.

3rd year player being dropped.

If this happened at any other club to a player in the dirth of form he is in, it wouldn't raise an eyebrow.
When a top pick just starting out his career is dropped when the team has nothing to play for then something is going to be said about it. Group that in with the suns poor player retention it makes sense people will ask whether he's going.

It's still a worry that he isn't in the best 22 at this point of the year though

Should of been dropped earlier but Dew has favourites and Izak is one of them. Needs a rocket up him, hopefully this does it
I say BS that Izak needs a rocket. It's the last thing he needs. He lost confidence, the work rate, pressure is still there. Similar to Ainsworth before being dropped. Yes, he adds a couple of stupid mistakes every game. VFL will do him good to get more touches, score, build confidence. But rocket? Based on what?

If you think that putting games into our young core players is playing favourites then yes Dew and selection committee play favourites. I suppose based on numbers they should also drop Rowell and Anderson and even Flanders who had 14, 15, 12 disposals while playing significant minutes in midfield. Or Sexton and Lemmens with 8 and 7 possessions respectively.

BTW, IMO Fiorini and Brodie are not in the best 22 when the list is healthy. So who deserved the games instead of favourites?

We play easily the youngest and least experienced line-up at the moment. Despite no ruck we play decent footy in most games. Most teams had bad games like we did. The most we lost was by 73 points. We had plenty 100+ points losses in the past. We were actually the best pressure team the last 4 weeks and we are the 4th in pressure for the whole season. We will reap benefits putting games into kids next year with Witts or a decent ruck we recruit. In the past we had a similar situation with Ballard and Powell when people were screaming they don't deserves games. People wanted to drop Luko in his first year. People were shaking heads when Sharp was played last year and early this year. The same Flanders last and early this year. Another example is Lemmens and Holman. Again BF experts were screaming that they are Dew's favourites. Now the same experts can't imagine not having them on the team.

I take selection committee judgement every time over our views here on BF. They work with players, watch them on the field and more importantly off the field all the time. In the end, they try to build a team to win it all. I am pretty sure, Rankine is part of it.

He.....isn't......happy......
Izak is an emotional guy, and he is playing exactly like he is feeling.
There was a reason I posted this.
Watch this space.
Was told early in the year from a contact at Port that both SA clubs think he's unhappy and gettable.

Well both SA teams better save up their first round picks if they are serious about getting him.

Pick 3 that will have played 40-50 games and have massive upside. They'll need a high first and a second at a minimum. Sun's won't let him go for unders.

12 months is a long time in football. If he and the sun's improve he might be happy again and sign on.

Still think it's all BS. Can't wait to see the young blokes improve after another preseason and come out firing next year.

He's a player who is three years in and is getting dropped from a terrible side.

So far, hasn't fired a shot in his entire career.

Not sure how any club could ask for a first round pick with a straight face, especially if he walks out on them, unhappy.

He's really only 2 years in as he missed his whole first season. Only 30 games so far. Most players are inconsistent at that age, especially small forwards.

Firing a shot is hard to quantify, but his first few games were brilliant and showed what he's capable off. That's what the SA sides will be hoping for if they try to get him, so they will need to pay for that. Naive to think otherwise.

You know for a fact he’s a freak talent and has the tools to be a very very good afl player. Don’t downplay it.
He plays a position that’s probably the hardest on the ground to have a big impact, in a side that’s struggling, with one good tall forward next to him.

Also, no point in us moving him on this year when his value is at an all time low.

We are better to hold him, hope with an improving team next year with a competent ruckman pushing up the ladder that his form will improve.
Agree with this and it woukd take a kings ransom imo this year to tempt GC..they hold all the cards. If next year he is still unsigned and say the crows are looking at another low finish, then it will be harder to extract a big return for him. But if i was GC i'd no way consider trading him and back the club in to try to ensure he signs on.

A genuine question for GC fans, is rankine unfit..i mean AFL level unfit? If there is any hint of that, maybe the club should get him a very specialised training regime over summer to get him right

I don't think he is unfit. He did miss the first season completely and the first 5 games last year due to multiple hamstring and hip issues. I think he now knows what it takes to look after his body. Yes, another preseason and he will improve. He was already one of better runners during the last pre-season.

People forget that the opposition teams put the best small defender on him every time. Without a recognized ruckman the supply and delivery I50 is also usually not great. Not much forwards can do when midfield gets obliterated like in the 2nd half against Lions. He does want to play more in midfield and he did get some minutes there this year.

I agree that his form and confidence dropped. But he still works hard.

Rankine is the ultimate team player, loves his teammates. His partner joined him recently on GC. He does seem happy on GC :) I am very confident he will extend.

Um, this is GCS. Remember the initial Caddy deal? Martin discussions? O'Meara?

He's contracted, they'd be foolish to trade him this year unless its for a good deal.

Depends on his mindset as well, He might be the type that sulks and has a worse year next year, Raz was a bit like this, never committed to us in 2020.

Depends if he walks out on your club, unhappy.

He's not playing like a happy footballer. And if he walks out, will you force him to stay? That rarely happens.

He is three years in, and hasn't done anything at senior level. And he's now been dropped.

Sure, he has a lot of talent. But so have a lot of players who've flamed out.

I reckon crows fans would be salivating at the thought of getting Rankine.. which wouldn’t really add up based on him not doing anything in 3 years..

This'll all blow over in a couple of weeks. Rankine was a pretty hard worker this preseason and worked hard during games even when not impacting. Just dropped off (quite) a bit the last few.

He'll smash a couple games out in the reserves, get back in the As and hit the preseason hard again. Next year he'll show marked important as part of an improving team.
