I'll give another perspective - Saw him live twice in the 2018 - Undoubted ability, but can be selfish in his play and still needs to win a bit more of his own ball - Will need to address these kinks in his game to be truly in consideration for pick 1 in 2018.

Likely in the minority, but I think he will slip outside of the top 10 in 2018.

Gets a lot of outside ball and while he is a solid distributor, he isn't the type that will make a living off of setting up play through the wing/half back (ala; Bryce Gibbs before he went into the midfield). He does a lot of things well, but based of the four games I saw him live, I don't think he's the type that will add an inside component to his game. I generally don't like to use player comparisons as it can be a lazy way of judging a player, but I see an awful lot of James Aish in him.

Will he slip in to the 'Less than 30% contested possession' category?
Crap, I had some of the Champion Data stats from the Championships, but deleted them. From memory, I do not believe so. While Rankine does have a very good outside game, he's doesn't mind going inside and mixing it up.

I am in agreement - Won't go so far as saying he will go out of the top 10, but I would be uncomfortable choosing him in the top 5.

He's averaged just under 20 possessions and an AA underager. If he averages mid 20's, which is what Brayshaw, Dow etc did this year, he's a lock for the top 5.

I realise Aish was an AA as a u/17 as well, but there's a fair difference between the two in pace, power and agility.

Some of the best players are selfish. His kicking is incredible so you want him with the ball instead of giving it off.

I would rather Brent Harvey have a shot for goal than Sam Gibson. Even if the shot was tougher.

He is a talented player but my observations are he has flaws in his game - Will add that he was allowed to fly under the radar this year as an under-age player - The opposition will place more scrutiny on him in 2018 and I hope he is more team-oriented.

Have you seen him play live - I would describe him as a good and reliable kick - Seen nothing to indicate he is an elite kick.

Its a shame that the Under 17s All-stars game wasn't streamed at all because that game perfectly summed up the talent this kid has. Played for both teams during the game and kicked goals for each team with ease. Just one of those players that makes it look easy with his speed and skill.

Not live but have seen enough and read some opinions I rate highly that he is a stand out and will be top 3 next year.

I watched Rankine live on two occasions - Very talented but has one or two kinks in his game, which he will seek to improve in 2018 - Will be interesting to see how he copes with extra attention in 2018.

Twice? Slider for sure.

That's two more occasions than you - I rarely post in this part of BF, unless I've seen the player live.

I wouldn’t have cared if you had watched him 100 times.

Some know what to look for - others don’t.

This thread is for posters to give informed opinions and discussions -
Some of his moves remind me of Peter Matera.

Could easily see him on a wing avg 15 touches & kicking 2-3 a game. He wouldn't need any more than that to be lethal.

What you post is a definite possibility - He still needs to display the ability to work within a defined AFL game plan.
