I watched alot of Coburg games i hope Jon goes well i really do
I respect West Coast alot
but in all seriousness i literally didnt see him play in the top 5 players ONCE AT VFL LEVEL, no exaggeration at all he was never a stand out at VFL, i tried to stick with him after hearing how good he was as a jnr but he was shocking i hope he develops and fulfills his potential and maybe he will but his a shocking kick, he has no awareness at all, he cant read the play from behind the ball, his basic skills are no good kicking handballing etc, he trys to baulk players like its under 18s by throwing the ball out to the side and stepping around it literally NEVER WORKS, he has an ok set of hands and can lead up and take a mark aslong as theirs no opponent i dont think his ever kicked an AFL goal in his 9 games mainly used as an attacking half forward, i dont even think i saw him kick many goals in the VFL that i can recall. The one thing i will say about him is his nowhere near as soft as people make out he will take a hit and he has a bit of a nasty side to him

anyway its a rookie pick its not like u went out and used pick 8 on him...

Its ok, we didnt pick him to play VFL. it is amazing howe a player can be average at VFL/WAFL etc but make a mark at AFL level. ist it the different speed, motivation, attitude etc, who knows. He has shown ability and is a roughie. It is also interseting how the second chance, new coach etc can motivate a plaayer who was perhaps stale mentally. Most drafted players never make it, once you are in the PSD the chances are very very slim at best. Jon looks like a suitable speculative pick - very low cost but high return if it works.

You know Seabiscuit was a rubbish horse to begin as a result of poor training and not being given a chance. Sold for a rock bottom price to a person who could see the hurt in its eyes and taught him how to be a horse again. It then became the greatest race horse in american history.;)

Seabiscuit may have been one of the greatest racehorse stories in American history but he was certainly not their greatest horse of all time, that is a two horse race between Man O'war and Secretariat.

Personally I think Secretariat is the greatest of all time, but he is rated #2 behind MOW in the Blood Horse ratings.

I think the idea of him being a athletic half forward is laughable. Probably more suited to the ruck then that position.
The idea of him playing anywhere at AFL level is laughable. The least talented footballer I have ever seen at the club. He is not soft, he is a nice bloke but like I've been saying for years JON is just not a footballer.

I know it will be difficult not to be insulted by the following comment, but I think it is fair to say Richmond has not been a football club for a few decades either.

Personally I support the decision to draft him with a nothing pick, sure he could be Bedford Mk2 but from what I hear decision making has been his poorest attribute and that can be caused by low confidence. Get him back in his home state with a new club and he may just be able to turn it around.

I don't think he will be a star by any measure but he could make our best 22 and he is the 'type' of player we currently lack.

Pfft none taken it isn't exactly a secret the RFC has been the laughing stock of the competition for 2 decades now. Just goes to show how bad JON is when he is compared to the many duds that have played for us.

His pooorest attributes are decision making, disposal, awareness, ability to read the play and balance. His best are determination, pace and marking. I know you want to put a positive spin on JON as a footballer, but in my opinion he will be lucky to play decent football at WAFL level let alone for the Eagles.

I agree that if he doesn't make a remarkable turnaround he will struggle to play WAFL and will be cut at years end. However, don't underestimate confidence and mental application, it can have massive flow on effects when applied properly.

He is still only 21 so he is worth another chance IMO.

Hopefully another JON will turn out for West Coast to the one who has been at Richmond. He showed very little here and was around a long time.

Our recruiting choices haven't always been great in recent years but a few kids have moved on and shown a bit elsewhere.

I would rather we be shown we had recruited well but just couldn't bring out his best.

Hope he turns out to be a gun for you :thumbsu:

Can't pretend I'm overly pleased we got him, but at least we didn't have to pay much for him. Give me another day and I'm sure I'll have rationalised myself around to 'what a ****ing steal! He'll win a Brownlow for sure!' now that he's an Eagle though.

Agree 100%

Confidence is every thing.

Sorry to disappoint you but I have seen a lot of JON and he has shown no ability what-so-ever. Not one little bit.

I'd take Fiora ahead of him.

Yeah you got me there, arguably the greatest horse at the time tho. Ironically, he lost horse of the year to War Admiral (who won the triple crown) even tho the biscuit beat him in the match race.

MOW was a freak. He also sired seabiscuit and war admiral.

I would go with MOW too. Phar lap should be alot higher in the blood horse ratings tho, if he didnt get weighted out of everything and die at an early age.

If JON can be as good as seabiscuit, then its a win. Go JON :D

Hey guys although the tig's supporters bag him alot as he didnt show much with us. I personally believe he was somewhat emotionally fragile and was handled reall poorly by our club. Confidence is everything in sport and Footy especially is played above the shoulders more than most people realise.

If he is ever going to make it, it is with you guys and I wish him all the best.

He has potential, just needs to fulfil it :thumbsu:

Sorry to derail the thread...

I have an unclaimed ticket of Secretariats win in the Belmont Stakes, the greatest win of all time in my books. Sham was considered a great horse at the time but was made to look like a trail pony.

They said Phar Lap had a big heart at 14 pounds (average heart is 9lb) but Secretariats was 22lb, he was a freak of nature.

Interestingly enough Phar Lap, Secretariat and MOW were all nicknamed Big Red.

A midget and an absolute crab.

Great drafting guys:thumbsu:

Broome does sweeten it though.

Turned out the midget in this case was better then the

what was the bet??
One carton on WC finishing above Freo at the end of the season and one carton on WC finishing with 8 or more wins.

Bet placed mid year and I looked in some trouble when Freo won the second Derby in round 17 but history shows Freo compounded and we won 4 of our last five games to reach 8 wins.

Lucky for me. :)

Sea Biscuit was sired by "Hard Tack", a son of MOW..........just for accuracy. ;)

i guess west coast had to weigh up mature aged wafl/vfl rookies vs a delisted player to rookie and went the latter. it really cant hurt having JON, although he has been pretty much the worst top 10 draft pick of all time, not that that was his fault. small risk for high reward. having said all that im bloody glad we didnt pick him up....... the media fallout would be horrible.

True! I need to brush up on my horse racing ;). Phar Lap only raced once in America didn't he? Yet he made the 20's in ratings for greatest ever US race horse? Some statistic.

JON was sired by Chris Lewis' brother? Good bloodlines. He is still green and gangly. He will fill out and become a stakes winner :p

a very nice pick up by you guys.

shocking player development played a massive part in his failure at richmond but jon is talented and on top of that is a real decent human being and a top bloke. i hope he proves a few doubters wrong

i'll be watching him very closely

interesting tag dildo3. lol.

Now the thing I`m getting from Tiger fans is that JON is a good guy with good character, with good agility but makes bad decisions under pressure.Woosha has more positives than negatives to work on.

SO I would like to think back in Perth with family and friends supportting him and at the team he supported as a child. At pick 53 we`v`e got nothing to lose .If he makes it well and good and if he does`nt too bad.
