He has missed 3 games this year could just as likely been due to injury, kicked 13 goals 7 from the midfield averaged 19 disposals and 3.3 tackles (both stats up from last year), 101 clearances @ 5.3 a game and 52 I/S 50's. 4th in the club for tackles.

All the games he's missed it's been through him getting dropped for being inconsistent. He hasnt' been injured.

Also you list some stats... WOW....19 disposals on average for a 26 year old midfielder in this day and age, impressive.... Andy Collins averaged that much and he only played his first game this year. The only impressive thing there is clearances. So this is best year ever yet he still got dropped multiple times, must say something.

If we're so inept at spotting talent then how is Danny Meyer also going at Port? Another guy who we let go. Last I heard he was stinking it up in the 2's.

And Im suppose to take your word for it?? I put my house on you not watching half of the port games this year and I doubt you paid special attention to Rodan if you did.

When did I say it was his best year?? I said his disposals and tackles had improved from previous years. 2007 was his best year and he only averaged 16 posessions then, its what Rodan does with his posessions that makes him a fantastic midfielder you should know that as you apparently watch him so closely.

8th in total disposals at Port
4th in tackles
7th in goals
1st in running bounces (81)
6th in inside 50's
4th in contested posessions
3rd in Centre clearances

In an under extremely quick run and carry midfielder who can win his own ball and is in the top 10 at Port in most statistics. And can kick goals...

You mean that bloke that your recruiters picked up at #12 in the 2004 draft?? wow you de-listed him 4 years later?? yeah your right the club is fantastic at spotting talent..

Well, we know which way he went. It's well-known that Richmond selected him without even seeing him play a game.

And if it's so hard to play for Richmond, people forgot to tell Brett Deledio, Nathan Foley et al because they seem to be doing pretty well.

We would honestly be back to being the laughing stock of the AFL if we pick up that dud.

That comment you refer to there was made in jest. :p

To be perfectly honest, Im happy either way. If the eagles do decide to draft him, i know i can rest assured it is because he has a good attitude & wants to play well. If he does have that attitude, then I would be more than happy to give him a rookie list spot. The worst that could happen is that he sits on a rookie list for a year for a year. Best Case scenario he starts to wake up & reaches the potential that saw him go so highly in the 05 draft.
However if they don't pick him up, well he's obviousy not the best talent out there, best of luck to him, and move on. If they gave him a spot on the senior list and he does nothing, then you are exactly right. We will be the laughing stock of the AFL.

Bit of an over-statement there. So by taking a risk on a player, something that each club does with many people each season, we become a laughing stock if the gamble is not a success?

Its probably ued a bit more metaphorically. It is an overstatement though, I used those words from another poster who was not in favour of drafting him, I was agreeing somewhat to what he said. I just don't want to see a precious list spot go to a guy that could do something. I think it will have a negative effect on the guys on our rookie list, who for the most are working their butts off for the oppurtunity, to see a kid waltz in and take that one spot that we may be able to give to someone we know has some promise, and has shown a bit of consistency in the AFL, like Davis from 08.
However I am all for a rookie list spot, if it's available to be taken, that way the ball is in his court, and its a win win for both parties.
Who knows what a new home could do for him, and I do like giving people a second chance, and he has potential, he effectively could be like a new draftee with 4 years in the AFL system.
(But what do I know, I just post here, I have no say in what happens) :p:D

Good pick by the Eagles. JON is not the massive spud everyone thinks he is. Just needs to improve his decision making and not hang onto the ball for too long.
Late rookie picks are always a massive gamble. This one could pay off.
Doubt he'll be a star, and may not even play a game, but it's worth the gamble just to see if he can thrive at a different environment.

Its really a low risk option to be honest. Pick 53 in the PSD.

If its works we come out looking like kings. If it doesn't turn out... well nothing happens.

Asking JON to hold the ball less is like asking Salma Hayek to have breast reduction surgery. Not a winning move for anyone especially my groin

So realistically, what pick 150 odd overall for 2009 once you factor in both drafts?

If there was no one that struck out as being a definite, why not give the kid a chance.

I'm with Tugga, much better coaching and a new environment could really help Jarryd. If he never plays a game, R5 rookie is not all that spectactular anyway.

Imagine if Fremantle picked up JON... What would you be saying about him then?

This is going to be fun.

This has Liam Bedford written all over it.

Seriously if JON were to go on a terrorist rampage killing spree it still wouldnt have Liam Bedford written all over it. Bedford was pick 2 and we missed out on Jeff Garlett for him

History suggests that you guys haven't been smart enough to pick up mature age hacks in the rookie draft.

You've given away many a national draft pick for them though :)

And they've stuck to your list on odd occassion. Kepler is looking awesome as a hussle player :thumbsu:

Agreed.

We would probably think hes in your best 22. If Byron Clanger is vice captain than JON should atleast be starting 18 material

Ah, I like this better than mine.

I reckon everyone should get a shot at quoting IbbosBFF and taking a stab at Freo, then we can set up a poll and vote for the winner.

You gotta pass the offseason somehow.

What??? Someting about huge boobs?

oh wait....

I hate to think that JON or anyone who knows him well is reading this thread because I'm sure he tries hard with his footy but I read this on the pund road end with regards to his rookie drafting and had a laugh:

Not surprised.

Got a whisper Worsfold hates doing the edges after he's mowed and Wallace said his have been immaculate for the last few years.

Maybe he'll get a job with Sandilands dad when he's not playing WAFL

Good pick up.
