I don't care what he has said about being happy to wear a WCE shirt etc. Good on him and I am one of the few non haters of JON. He just needs confidence and one position! Make him more solid too which you at WC seem to have no trouble doing so good luck with it.

a very nice pick up by you guys.

shocking player development played a massive part in his failure at richmond but jon is talented and on top of that is a real decent human being and a top bloke. i hope he proves a few doubters wrong

i'll be watching him very closely

good luck to Jon - hope he works out for you.

From the sounds of it, he never wanted to leave Perth, he wanted to be an Eagle - and Melbourne was not a place that suited him.

Goes to show how poorly Richmonds homework when it came to drafting back in 2005.

The bloke was a massively speculative pick for selection 8, he obviously didn't want to leave Perth, so the "home sick" factor was huge (the same as Meyer) - and his home state and and his favorite club had shown genuine interest in selecting him with their 1st selection.

Considering all this - it was a stupid selection for the Richmond to take him:eek:

Hope he can make it work at West Coast, we still owe you for the Mortan trade - so i hope this one settles the score out:)

Ease up Mate not his fault drafted as an indigenous player to the other side of the country same has happened to Chris Yarran:thumbsu:. Some players just dont fit. clubs need to take into consideration all aspects of players personalities , cultural and family situations .

Celtic can you have him sent to us via the Rookie draft next year:)

For what its worth JON is a 'no loss' for you IMO. He has more skill than any other pick around then in RD. He makes it then you are way ahead, if not meh, as its unlikely many picked after him will either.

You know Seabiscuit was a rubbish horse to begin as a result of poor training and not being given a chance. Sold for a rock bottom price to a person who could see the hurt in its eyes and taught him how to be a horse again. It then became the greatest race horse in american history.

So basically, we need to teach JON how to become a footballer again. ;)

*STYLE LIKE: Rob Murphy

*MY RANKING (not meant to reflect appropriate draft pick to use): 5

*PROBABILITY OF AFL CAREER: Definite. Ready year 2.

- Within an AFL team list, could prove capable of SUSTAINING a ranking of 5-10.

*HURT FACTORS (Offensive/Defensive/Negative): M-H / M / L

*TRADEMARK:

- Casually pluck the ball out of the air or cleanly off the turf, then an even more effortless (no, make that "cocky") sell-the-dummy, then skim the turf for 30m then accurate fluent kick to a well spotted target.

This is a very positive review by a football expert that is usually close to the mark.

I don't like soft players but JON might get the fire back in his belly if we get lucky.

Happy to use this pick, something for nothing.............or at worst...........nothing for nothing.

and if he fails it's down the glue factory he goes right?*

*hoping this is not misinterpreted

He deserves a second chance under the media spotlight not all players are articulate and say the right thing , he's obviously nervous and stuffed up . I'm sure he would have liked his career at Richmond to be better

What does that have to do with anything? Are you suggesting Indigenous players are mentally weaker than non-indigenous players and can't handly change?

Or maybe, just maybe, JON is talented, and just never developed at Richmond.

No. He's not. Even in his first season he was terrible. Before our development staff got a chance to Richmondise him. Even Chris Yarran showed more this year than JON did in 06.

Just like David Rodan, right?

You can't really compare those two. Rodan was a regular in the seniors and always showed a bit: many, many times he'd alllllmost do something spectacular but not quite. He was an absolute fan favorite because he always tried his guts out. In the end I think our coaches decided he was just too small.

JON is almost the opposite: a fan whipping boy because although he has natural athleticism, he's plays with hesitation and makes poor decisions. He'd come into the seniors, play poorly for two games, get dropped back to Coburg for half a season, be brought back in, play poorly... he never showed enough to earn a regular senior place.

That said, I think he's a reasonable pickup for West Coast, because he costs you nothing and rookie picks are meant for taking risks.

No, nothing like David Rodan. Get it through your heads because you're bitterly dissapointed. Rodan was delisted because of injury issues after he had his 2nd knee reco. We knew he had some talent. JON was delisted because he has no talent and managed only 9 games in 4 years at one of the worst clubs in the AFL - Of which he struggled in the 2's and even looked below standard there.

Just like David Rodan, right?

David Rodan had a bit of ability. He showed he could be a serviceable forward pocket for us. He earnt a rising star nomination and kicked 17 and 18 goals in his first two seasons.

But he never had heaps of ability. Even now he's mediocre at best. Very overrated. Like most of that Port team he's been shithouse since the 07 grand final.

JON showed absolutely nothing. I used to cringe when he got the ball.

Has any player showed as much hate for his past club as JON has. He would of rather been sent to Guantanamo Bay then Richmond by the looks of it and for me that shows signs of maturity, quick thinking and balance

A smart kid if anything...

I watched alot of Coburg games i hope Jon goes well i really do
I respect West Coast alot
but in all seriousness i literally didnt see him play in the top 5 players ONCE AT VFL LEVEL, no exaggeration at all he was never a stand out at VFL, i tried to stick with him after hearing how good he was as a jnr but he was shocking i hope he develops and fulfills his potential and maybe he will but his a shocking kick, he has no awareness at all, he cant read the play from behind the ball, his basic skills are no good kicking handballing etc, he trys to baulk players like its under 18s by throwing the ball out to the side and stepping around it literally NEVER WORKS, he has an ok set of hands and can lead up and take a mark aslong as theirs no opponent i dont think his ever kicked an AFL goal in his 9 games mainly used as an attacking half forward, i dont even think i saw him kick many goals in the VFL that i can recall. The one thing i will say about him is his nowhere near as soft as people make out he will take a hit and he has a bit of a nasty side to him

anyway its a rookie pick its not like u went out and used pick 8 on him...

I think the idea of him being a athletic half forward is laughable. Probably more suited to the ruck then that position.
