Yeah 5/6 is a pretty good hit rate. There was also Schloithe and Menegola as rookies, so 5/8, but even that's pretty good for one draft year. Add in Kersten or Talia instead of Forster with pick 29, and we'd be saying that 2011 was as good for us as 2008.
Good? it's astonishing. The sort of good drafting (and luck) that builds premiership teams.

In 2010 all bar Houghton from the 2009 national draft played a game for Freo and each of the players that did play showed something, even Bollenhagen. As it stands by the end of next year only one may be on the list. Would still be a good draft overall (Fyfe & Barlow), but players can fall off the radar quickly.

Yep way too early to be claiming it as a success

The 2010 draft is looking like a complete write off. Unless Michie stays, not a single player left from ND, PSD and RD.

Trades were decent though (Mzungu + Griffin).

Stazzaz - For the sake of the average Freo BF follower, going forward can you please:-

A/ Learn the English art form of spelling, grammar & punctuation

B/ Learn our players names. Reading incorrect names of our players is nothing short of
cringe worthy. It wreaks of lazy journalism/posting. It is Silvagni, not Silvani.
Ok MemberSince02, I didn't know it was effecting a lot of people... How is the writing for you mate? ;)

We only had three live picks in that main draft and none of them are busts in the sense that they didn't make it as footballers (although Mellington may yet find himself out of the AFL next season).
I agree that the Rookie and Pre-season drafts were a bit of a write-off. Re-listing Bucovaz for instance (!).

why did the cats delist the JPOD? Getting a bit too old? too predicatable? going with more youth ie

getting their ruckmen fit frees up Vardy and blicvas(spelling?) to play forward?

Yep.

But then I posted elsewhere about each club only needed to get two top 22 players to meet the minimum requirements for drafting. (player x plays for 12 years, in a starting 22. 22/12 = 1.8, to rotate a list 45/12 = 3.75). On this basis if get 2 good player per draft and 2 who play 20 - 30 games between them we are covered. Just.

In 2009 we did Ok. Fyfe and Barlow should both stay on the list for at least 150 games each. And we contributions from Roberton (before he left), Moribito played a season and may do more and Silvagni who will play at least another 50 games for us one wold think.

And as we have said 2008 and 2011 were both stellar. Last year, too early to tell, but the indications are good.

Yeah they're certainly not Edgcumbe/Doswell picks, they retain value as players. I hope they find other clubs, but, like Roberton, I doubt Freo will get anything in exchange for them, which is as much a consequence of free agency driving down the trade value of fringe players as much as it is anything else.

I haven't said I have heard that I just think we are going a bit too far with this trading thing... I understand we can trade out someone like Viv Michie as much as I don't want him to go and maybe just maybe Silvani because he is a great player but we have just already got players there for that role and they are playing it just a tiny bt better than Silvani and that is the same thing with viv I just think viv should leave for his own sake Viv is like a mini Fyfe and Silvani is like a mini McPharlin yet I just think Silvani should stay because sadly enough mcpharlin is getting old and we need someone to take his spot we he leaves the club and retires so Silvani should stay and about Viv I think If he wants to take HIS career to the next level leave if he wants to wait a handful of years only getting a few games until one midfielder such as Mundy leaves the club but Viv could be delisted by then.
Wow!!! That is the WORLD RECORD for the longest sentence ever created in the English language.
Some interesting points:)

I just don't understand why we are making so many changes to our side if this side got us to the granny this year. I do understand why we are picking up Free Agents such as Colin Sylvia but I strongly believe we should not be trading our Grand Final players for someone from another 17 sides...
You just don't seem to get it Stazz. The glaring hole in our team for a few years now is that extra ready-to-go kpf to give Pav a chop out. We do have young blokes already on our list that are the future. Problem is our flag window is right now. So, unless you believe a magic wand exists that will produce a strong marking, pack splitting goalkicker from within our current list - you better believe that someone like J-Pod is exactly what we need for the 2014 season. Best thing is that he is now a de-listed free agent. We don't have to trade anything to get him. So, before you lose track of things again, you might need to get a handle on the system.
Our time is now. There is a time to rebuild (a-la the Bullies or saints) and there is a time to top up. Pods will be with us next season. And barring injury, he will be the answer to our missing link in the forward line for our 2014 GF appearance!

GWS BS exposed again

ST KILDA has approached Greater Western Sydney about trading for the No.1 pick in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft, but head of football Chris Pelchen says the Giants are reluctant to part with their prized selection.

Not that they'd get much value from St Kilda in terms of players from pick 1, but GWS aren't going to deny the hottest young talents of Australian football the chance to lose games by 80 points in front of crowds of 6000 people.

I heard that's because they offered Dal Santo for pick 1, GWS would have to have rocks in their head

I dont want to wish this on any club but I think GWS are slowly becoming the new Melb Demons. They have a low fan base, no A-grade players, a lot of skinny kids playing seniors footy, a rookie coach and this year they copped a lot of floggings. None of that can be good for the development of their players.

The weird thing is that it's all their own doing.
