He had the same goal average as Kepler for 2013.

He spent a lot more town down back this year though. Trust me guys he's a fair superior player to Kepler.

I think he's unrestricted; so he can walk straight over...

Yeah he would be. Was just saying that even though it'd be better if we were bringing in 23-25 yr old players I don't mind bringing in guys like Silvia and Pods for just cap space as long as it means we keep our draft picks to try and top up on youth and in particular Kpp's.

The Saints problem imo wasn't just that they brought in mature players they also drafted badly during that period so let Lyon bring in a few mature players that he thinks can get us the flag next year but keep what draft picks we do have to give bond and co a chance to build for the future too.

Thing about Kepler is hes never played like a KPF. He has height but plays more like a small, that's been his biggest weakness. he's not the lead out, or contested marking big body we need

Maybe on a one year contract. That's a big maybe though, he's already 32.

If he and the medicos are confident his body will hold up, I guess he's an option.

Would rather Jesse White than Pods & I'd rather AIDS more than Jesse White.

Get Gumby on the cheap and I'm happy with the off season recruits. Gumby is a risk with more handsome payoff.

I'm going to be blunt, you guys are in your "premiership window" you are a key forward - maybe two short. Pods would be a great pick up. Costs you nothing and wouldn't need to be on a giant contract. At his best he is a better player than Bradley or Gumby. He's only played 3 years of AFL.

The saints topped up with the intention of "going again" with these top up players rather than seeing a gap and filling it. Half their side was re-cycled hacks by the end of 2012 whereas you guys would have some icing on the cake, so to speak. Ross Lyon left Saints in a ****ing mess when he departed but that was as much about bad drafting. I think he's learnt his lesson this time around - you guys have better recruiting officers by the looks of it too.

On the money there, getting Pods is a freeby. No draft pick to be used. Its a no brainer for me, we lack a good second key forward, here we have a decent one available - so get him in.....

If it all goes titts up you've got a great playing/development coach on the books.

Isnt that what he was hired for at Geelong before being rookie listed

Yup, that's what he was doing. Maybe conditioning as well. He was tooling around with Scarlo and co one day at training and Scarlo went up to the staff and said "hey boys, you should offer this guy a contract".

If he's still that good why are Geelong dropping him?

At a guess his age. They seem to be getting rid of some of the older talent and approaching a youth policy. Look, I realise he isn't ideal due to his age but my personal feeling is that he can offer Freo' exactly what we need now. We need more time to develop Tabs. He provides depth and is a proven AFL performer. He also seems to have some experience in training so he could be an asset to the club in more ways than one. If the GF showed us anything if showed having someone like Pods there next year might make all the difference. it's a long shot anyways - will he want to come out to the wild west for a few years? We can offer him a chance to play under Lyon and be in a competitive team. We could offer a 1 or 2 year deal. He'd be FA. As long as Freo don't overspend I can't see the harm. Peel Thunder are going to destroy teams next year as well.

We need to look at life after pav. Let's face it if pav and pods both retire next year we are screwed for 2015. Gumbleton has a lower potential for next year but could have 5-6 years in him and who knows how good he could be if we get him right, that's a big if though.

You have to be very worried about Gumby's durability. Hypothetically Pav and Pods may go next year, hopefully with a Fremantle premiership. We have still bought time to develop Tabs and any other KPF's we may aquire. We also have Peel Thunder to develop the reserves/youth more directly as well.

I would rather get 2/3 serviceable years out of Pods that an injury riddled 5 years out of Gumby.

Going out on a limb here -- My eyes got a little wider when I saw J-Pod would be de-listed. I'd grab him on a one-year deal. Seriously. With all due respect to Kepler Bradley -- and I met him at the GF and found him to be a very friendly guy -- J-Pod is a premiership player who knows what it takes to win and isn't afraid of the big stage. And goodness knows, he can take a mark -- something we sorely need on the forward line. Yes, Gumbleton is younger, but what's wrong with J-Pod keeping a seat warm for Matt Taberner? Yes, J-Pod is up there in footy years, but signing him would cost us only dollars and we could draft and develop a couple of key forwards.

We are at a tipping point. We have three key forwards: Walker, Vardy and Kersten that are 20-24 so we really need to see where they are at. Chris Scott has always said the aim for this group was the the 2015-2016 flags - so now it's time to party!

This is the angle I'm taking in regards to Pods. I think he could be a good fit.

Would he want to come out west though??

Would he want to come out west though??

1. To prove to the footy world (Geelong more than anyone else) he's still got it.
2. To be a key position player in helping a club win a flag.
3. To thrive on the challenge of winning another flag.
4. To earn the cash he's unlikely to get from another AFL club.
5. To discover how great a guy Hayden Ballantyne really is, now that he wouldn't be playing against him.
6. To transform his relationship with Zac Dawson from hatred to bromance.

The more I think about this, the more I'd be inclined to give him a shot (assuming he's willing).

If the body holds up, he could be the missing piece. If only for a year.
