1. To prove to the footy world (Geelong more than anyone else) he's still got it.
2. To be a key position player in helping a club win a flag.
3. To thrive on the challenge of winning another flag.
4. To earn the cash he's unlikely to get from another AFL club.
5. To discover how great a guy Hayden Ballantyne really is, now that he wouldn't be playing against him.

To see the faces of the Geelongistan faithful when Pods and Balla high-5 after a goal celebration would be priceless.:thumbsu:

He has been released/not re-signed by Geelong. He still thinks he has a year or two left.

For memory his body has held up pretty well.

I think we should go for him - he'd come free and cheap, we know what he can do, and he'd buy us a year or two until Tabener or Smith develop further.

Given all the other KPF's we've missed, i think Pods would be a good get. He's a premiership player, and proven to be more than handy.
Means nothing. Nathan Ablett is a premiership player and he was a joke.

But J-Pod is NOT a joke. He's had some big games in the recent past. He gives us a legitimate tall target threat we don't have. Coach Lyon can craft a role for him in which he's not overstretched. We're only talking one year here.

You make good points GilG. But J-Pod is useless in big games. Very useless. He would fill a hole that we desperately need filled, but I don't rate J-Pod.

The thing is, who else is there left that would fill that hole better than Podsiadly? Gumbleton is injury prone, White is Collingwood bound, and any draftee we take would most likely need a couple of years of development. I'd love for us to get Thorpe, but he's gotta come through the draft, so there are no guarantees he will fall to us.

Unfortunately, without Cloke, Clark or Buddy, we're left in a situation where we're gunna have to make do with what we can get while we develop our own.

Not against it, but would be absolute last minute decision (PSD) and it means Kep gets turfed.

Would still prefer Gumby even with his glaring shortcomings.

I'm really torn, have a feeling we won't lure a really good KPF or draft one this year so I feel J-Pod would probably be better than nothing at all. Has probably 1 year max but would be a good foil for Pav. His age and likelihood of sustaining injuries would be the main con.

Took some big marks against us a few weeks ago and has always been a pretty reliable kick for goal. Doesn't hurt that he's a finals hardened premiership winning player either.

I say yes, we're unlikely to get anybody better and he'd instantly be able to contribute to the team in our push for the flag.

Well said and pretty much mirrors my thoughts, we're at the stage now where we can't be too picky. J-Pod would definitely offer more than our next best KPF hope in Taberner.

Well if it makes anyone feel any better/worse, Terry Wallace on Trade Week Radio, thinks JPod and Freo would be a perfect fit.

Would prefer to take the risk on Gumby.

Pods isn't a risk though. He's a solid player, from one of the best AFL sides of all time.

The real question is, are we expecting any of Clarke, Griffin, Keps, Taberner or Mammoth to kick 30+ goals next season? If the answer is yes, then we don't need to worry about J-Pod, as they all bring more to the table. If the answer is no, then J-Pod could comfortably sit at FF in our side for a season.

Exactly why we should sign him. Hell, if we have the money, why not sign him AND Gumbleton? If J-Pod gets hurt, Gumby steps in. If Gumby can't make the 22, he proves himself in the WAFL.

I like all the guys you mention, but we'd be lucky if we get much more than 30 COMBINED from them. Sign J-Pod.

Geelong have a dodgy ff, a ruck/forward who is still a few years away and no other big men of note and they still cut JP. Why are we looking at him?

Reckon we should take a shot. He got delisted, which means it cost us nothing except 1 spot on the list. He won't be here long term of course, probably last as long as pav, Luke and sandi land.

A strong body up forward won't hurt our premiership chances.

We can still go after gumbleton or other long term FF.

That doesn't make me feel any better at all.

But I honestly think people are judging a bit too quickly if they think JPod wouldn't be a good fit here.

Did anyone else spot the glaring lack of a contested marking forward (that wasn't a midfielder!) during the GF? If Pods had been playing, do you reckon Lake would have run as rampant as he did. Pods is probably a better contested mark than Pav. And he's a genuine KPF, who can play FF or CHF. He's durable and fit. And won't cost a pick.

What would happen to our year if Pav was out for an extended period and we were relying on Kep (who may not get a full pre-season in), Silva, a skinny Tabs and Hannath (Tabs was probably as effective a forward)?

If we can't get White, then Pods seems a very nice plan B.
