Traded Jack Bowes [Traded to Geelong with #7 for F3]

Suns got Sharp out of that deal who seems to be a better player than the guy picked up at the pick they gave us who is sitting in the 2s at gws. Not sure you can list the trade they did with us as squandering picks.
They traded pick 27 for 15. Nothing wrong with going after the player, but don't cave to your rivals for way unders.

They have enough trouble keeping the good players they do draft, they need to he far better than they are at being ruthless at the trade table or they're going to be back asking for more picks very soon.

Very lucky that suns didn’t match and made you guys pay for Lynch , we are still the only club that had to do that a few times now (Danger, JC ect)

Didn’t see any sooking at the time from rivals about that , quote the opposite actual

if 7 is on the table for academy points, I can think of plenty of clubs that would load them with more points for the pick.
they stand to lose a good 1100 points on that trade. find it staggering GCS would do it and the AFL would approve it...esp 3 years after they gifted the Suns picks they also squandered for peanuts (to Geelong no less)

Bartel will be the next AFL GM. Im sure the AFL is completely ok with this.

They pretend to care about GCS while sitting back and letting them be run atrociously.

And the talk about GCS wanting academy kids...
Bowes is from QLD and they are letting him go to Geelong and sending pick 7 with him.

Because Richmond couldn't give them anything close to pick 3 that they got as compensation. Gws were only going to get a mid teens back for Cameron, so a trade for 2-3 first rounders was far better.

Regardless, this isn't a knock on Geelong. This is about Gold Coast and their poor list management skills that half a dozen clubs have now taken advantage of.

On the open market

Camerom gets a mil
Stewart gets a mil
De Koning will be owed a mill
Bilcavs 800k
Dangerfield 800k
Atkins gets 500k this year
Tuohy 500k
Close owed 500k
StEngle owed 500k
Parfitt owed 500k
Duncan on 500k

60 percent of the cap used on 20 percent of the list

Lol blicavs and danger are not getting those wages at 32, tuohy and close are not on 500k nor would parfitt be.

.. and every time this AFL controlled club seems to SHockingly kiss Geelong on the dick right on cue. But yeah good salary cap management right? .. lol... and my crush gave me a wristy.

Would you like granite benchtops with that wristy Jack?

Can't say I'm surprised.

You just listed off a bunch of players 3️⃣ + who would not get that money this point in their careers.

I think the answer is very simple, we are very meticulous and strategic with our recruitment and dont get sucked into bidding wars for players.

You notice how when a big star wants back home to vic and it turns into a scenario of who is willing to open up with the biggest cheque, geelong is nowhere to be seen?? We distance ourselves from how carlton essendon hawks run in that way.

We have a geographical advantage that we have slowly built over 100 + years with the geelong community and are now finally seeing some fruit baring off the trees.

Our main strategy has been lifestyle.. Simple as that. A country coastal lifestyle appeal to alot of people, and we offer them that and the chance to play footy.

Richmond and geelong both into hopper, richmond as reported simply offered big bucks we were not prepared to offer, so we pulled out as we historically do in those scenarios.

I feel the big vic clubs are about high profile big dollar bidding wars head to head with each other, and frankly it does not and will not work.. Which is why clubs like carlton essendon have been bad for so long. They need a new vantage point of recruitment and stick to it

If you had to pay 1.6 over 2, which is what the Suns had to do, you would not have been able to make the deal.

If you are allowed to completely restructure the deal to make it a lot more palatable, why do you need pick 7 as compensation? Thats just restructuring a contract.

This is the most lopsided trade in history and its gone in the favour of the premiers and nobody with any influence gives a s**t. Surely you can see why most punters think this reeks.

Who cares what the punters think? The Suns didn't do their sums and we freed up some cap space and they threw in pick 7 as a sweetner. Not sure how that is compensation. This is a hundred percent on Gold Coast ******* it up and the player choosing Geelong. Back to the salt mines comrade.

The AFL have effectively given the premier a compensation pick 🙄.

Top 4 sides shouldn't have access to free agents and free picks.
In outcome it might be how it's landed but it wasn't how the system was designed.

The system needs to change for sure but what that looks like needs thought not knee jerk reactions

Effing Ned Guy giving advice after the absolute incompetent debacle he presided over at Collingwood!!

The AFL is of course a corrupt Boys Club, Ned gets sacked from the Pies but is given a well paid job at the AFL in the very area he was a failure in FMD
Watch him somehow get the trade through and end up having Gold Coast being lumped with his wage still. :grinv1:

Is him choosing Geelong over Hawthorn or Essendon really that huge a surprise? Essendon are the worst run club in the country, and Hawthorn has serious racial allegations levied against it and has Jeff Kennett in charge, I would be avoiding both those places as well.
It's too good to be true :)

No it's very simple. Top 4 sides don't get access. It's how it clearly should have been from the start.

6 months ago they were called plodders now they are all superstars that should be getting more

Turn it up

Draft picks are for teams that through incompetence or lack of motivation become poor. Free agency by and large rewards clubs that make finals. It's nicely balanced. AFL still has more equalisation mechanisms than any other sport/league on the planet.
