I see, was hard to tell but thanks. I read it as, hes so sh*t that he couldn't even be labeled as the bunghole of a ruckman, let alone a whole ruckman šŸ˜‚

I've got to get out more. That suggests that it is a good thing to be labelled as the bunghole of a ruckman?

Buller has played 12 games after relocating twice in the last four years, learning two different systems and dealing with 80 different team mates. Happy to give him more than two games before I write him off.
I’m by no means writing him off because as it stands he’s a non rucking version of 2025 Cox (who provided basically zero aerial and forward support), but how does this stuff impact his ball handling? He’s literally dropped everything he’s gone near this year.

Literally, I don't think that's how you use the word "literally."

I reckon Howe forward, he can be on field coach for Jack, fix his leading and positioning up, the I50 marks will come.
Membrey Schultz, Jamie have all the knowledge to assist/ lead having played forward all their lives. Howe is a rip chord down the track IMO, if things are tracking very poorly.

Don't disagree but one of Howe's roles is to organise, we've seen him waving his arms around for years setting up the backline, I haven't seen that much in the 3 you mention.

Thanks for your contribution. Although it figuratively added nothing to the Buller discussion it did at least reflect how anal some people are with language šŸ‘

If he hasn’t found form by the start of the VFL season, he might benefit from a run in the backline.
His attack on the ball in the air reminds me of Nathan Murphy.

Rubbish. The ball movement and delivery has been shocking. Fat Tex was playing on a midget and getting far better service. If Buller lined up for Sydney today or Gold Coast last week he would have kicked 3 or 4 goals. On occasion he would outbody his opponent only to have another tall crash in from behind and thump the pill clear. It's a tough gig playing as a tall forward at Colingwood.

He is just an old fashioned honest worker who was selected to meet a short term need. I'm assuming the club will throw the kitchen sink at King over the summer. He doesn't suck.

He's a very average footballer. It is what it is.

I am sceptical about the ruck relief. In 12 games of AFL he has had 8 hit outs and 7 of those came in one game. SO far he looks worse in the ruck than KPF and for a borderline player in the 23 I thinks its a big ask and probably unfair to ask him to ruck. He will struggle with that while he tries to tie down a KPF possie which he is no guarantee to keep

Either try Steene or give it to McStay who at least is established and we know is not a big goal scorer so we dont lose too much when he goes into the ruck.

Those saying JB is providing ruck relief are really reaching.

The clear answer is Steene comes in which allows DC to spend more time forward.

This will be assisted by the return of the skipper and old man Howe.

You’re conflating meeting expectations and suiting the gameplan when they’re separate things.

I never once said Membrey didn’t meet expectations.

You're making it sounds more complicated than it really is.

Membrey is borderline washed, whereas Buller is never going to make it, regardless of game style.

Why are some so worried about this kid this early. He's competing pretty decently and showed some promising signs at the swans.

Are we forgetting how hard it seems to be to adapt to Fly's system? Both Houston and Schultz struggled, now imagine being a 12 gamer and having to adapt to that new system at a new club. Take a breather guys, lol. Hopefully the selection panel are more level headed and give him a solid chance to settle in and get some games under his belt, it's gotta start somewhere. Do we want to see development or not?

Yeah develop in the 2s, not be miles off it in the 1's.

Not sure I would write him off after 2 games. I remember people having grave doubts about DC in the early days.

None of what I said should affect his marking ability, you're correct.
I have a feeling though that he is under immense pressure, probably just by himself. He's seen as the 'next great hope' of our forward line, so much so we moved Cox on. There would be a lot of noise externally about Buller, who knows how much he hears. He's also a full decade younger than Cox, Cox was never going to play beyond this year probably, youth over experience I guess.

His gone from WAFL to NEAFL to one of the biggest clubs on the planet. There would be pressure, no doubt. He reminds me of the kid who spends it before he's got it, he'll settle down and become the forward we need. Just because the bloke is 200cm doesn't mean he's going to be a genuine ruck, otherwise we'd use Frampton instead.
Buller's first game against the saints was a tough battle, mainly in the midfield. Against the Crows, he seemed to be moved up the ground to try and get the ball into our forward line, I felt like it was a desperate move but the Crows were just too good, Buller wasn't alone last week. McStay can count himself lucky that we're talking about Buller and not the shocker he had. West and Buller will be our forward line for the next 5-10 years I reckon. Two games in to the season, we need to calm down a bit.

Having said all that, if Buller fails I'll be spewin!!

Seen as the next great hope? Where/when?

He’s a late pick swap taking up a list spot. His resume was very average so anyone with expectations for Buller simply didn’t look at his past.

He’s a free swing.

I'll give him till round 8, after that, I'm going to have to be mean. I think he'll be ok though
I think this is fair.

Annoyingly I had higher hopes after his preseason game. Granted it was only North but his stats were good in poor conditions.

I honestly reckon he just needs to see one go through to get some confidence. His attack on the ball cant’t be questioned.

I dont want to be harsh but expectations like this set you up for a fall.

Just a correction is he went from WAFL to VFL/AFL. He has had 6 years of senior footy with marginal output in AFL terms. He is about to turn 25.

Freeswing, as suggested, is what you should see him as rather than "next great hope".

In my mind if I had to post an estimate on him as to output I would say he has about a 20-30% chance of becoming a lesser Membrey/McStay level player and being with us over the next 3-4 seasons.

To be spewing if a player doesn't make it coming from so far back in the pecking order is unreasonable. There is a reason he was traded to us for next to nothing.

Buller can’t mark and doesn’t kick goals !! What was McRae thinking? It was bad enough last season with Bobby hill and his issues. This season without Bobby and checkers it’s a disaster. Add Buller to the mix and our forward line is officially bullsĀ£#t . Why persist when it’s glaringly obvious he is a potato? Give actual ā€œpotentialā€a fair go (west).

If 2 games is your sample size for success or failure, then I'm glad you pessimistic types, and naysayers aren't working professionally for our team.
Geez.. give the bloke a chance...
If we were judging Collingwood players purely on their first handful of games, then players like Josh Daicos, Maynard, Cox and Murphy would've been delisted real quick.

Hell, Houston and Schultz wouldn't be on the list right now.

I'm giving him some more time and I'm keen to see how he goes when we start moving the ball quicker and not slowing down play so our depleted backline doesn't get caught out.
