And just how many elite players does every team have? I can't recall seeing too many teams with 22, maybe some of the old SOO teams. Most teams would be lucky to have a handful. An obsession to have a number of elite players is fine, an obsession to lament every player who doesn't reach that level bizarre and irrational when every team includes more players who aren't elite than they do elite players.

I don't really like his hairstyle babe.. if you're gonna cut that lil section next to the ear attach a 1 or 2 razor attachment.. you don't use scissors to cut around your ear.. makes your hair look like a helmet and lacks class and pezaz.

If you're gonna join me in Mykonos please go and get a professional cut.. there's a lot of Serge's with benefits around Melbourne.. don't go to no Just Cuts $10 salon babe.. that would be unacceptable.

Like I said before, you just can't have someone as fumbly as Crisp who also has terrible kicking skills in defence.

His and Blair's last minute clangers costed us a win.

Seriously? Crisp has been bloody good for us. Blair not so much. but blame the selection committee for that one.

He's been excellent. He's given us everything you could want from a half back. Run and carry, winning plenty of footy, positive with his ball movement, strong in the air and good defensively. And pleasingly has done so consistently for a consecutive run of games. He just needs to tidy up those errant hand passes.

The fact that he could be top 5 in our BnF isn't a great thing.

Sure, he takes the game on but his kicking is so hit and miss.
He could hit an absolute dart or it could spin in any direction and miss by a mile.

We realistically need better players to go past him- half backs with pure skill and class- not just vanilla average types.

I do like that he is no longer in the midfield mix because he is atrocious as an on-baller. The fact he was given so many games and minutes is an indictment on our coaching staff.
 
I am going to claim all credit for Crisp moving back, he is a great straight line runner and always looked a half back to me. I was an advocate for doing this last year and hey presto its worked.

In all seriousness I am happy that Bucks did do something different for once. His inflexibility with players has been a curse. Hopefully this shows him that players can be re-moulded and repositioned in a way that adds net value to the team.

It does provide some dilemnas next year as to who constitutes our best back six. Crisp really has to be in that frame now. I am keen for Maynard to move more forward of centre (his deliver inside 50 is so much better than exiting 50) and be a wrecking ball in the middle and Crisp stepping up gives that option.
 
He has played well at half back, and I admit much better than I thought he would have. However I'm still of the opinion he should be playing predominantly midfield. His two biggest assets are his speed and two way running, two attributes the midfield sorely lacks and only one of which is important in the half back role he has been playing.

Add to that the fact that I believe the importance placed on the position of the running half back to be an overrated aberration brought in to existence by the propensity to slavishly conform to the norm or imitate what ever the most successful teams are currently doing.

IMO unless you have a player that is elite(or close to it) to play roles that could be considered optional(such as a running half back) then you're better off developing a different role that better suits the players available on your list.

I think what you need to give more credit to Crisp for is his ability to win one on one contests consistently in the D50 both in the air and on the ground his aerial work has surprised me. This separates him from those unaccountable types you refer to, that won't last. Crisp can defend and then rebound which I think is the key to him remaining there.

He is a big bodied midfielder which is also trendy but I would say he is far from unique or elite in that position. I think Wills will be an option in there if thats what we are looking for but we have a lot of mid options and Crisp was getting shuffled to the outer and VFL level when all mids were available. He really has adapted and made a spot in the 22 his - just not as a mid.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to talk him down and I'm more than happy to acknowledge his ball winning ability(it's more than apparent when he plays midfield). My position however is based on the fact that although he may be the best player currently on Collingwood's list to play as a running half back he still does not provide the level of drive off half back that I would want from a player in that position. For example Collingwood has a lot of intercepting distributor type defensive options with the likes of Howe, Scharenberg and Langdon. You could just as easily get the run and carry out of the back half with two of them at half back and then having some hard running mids like Crisp getting back and then running hard from behind.

As for Crisp being a big bodied midfielder that is not influencing my thinking here. My thought process is that Crisp possesses speed and endurance to run hard both ways. A player like Wills has neither. In terms of speed only Treloar would shade Crisp and in terms of two way running Sidebottom and Phillips would be the competition but in my opinion both better serve the team playing on the outside.

More generally I consider Crisp as a sort of Treloar lite, providing Treloar's ball winning and explosive traits albeit at a lower standard but with better two way running. A player like Wills I would place in line behind Pendlebury and Wells just in front of Aish as midfielders who can win the hard ball but are more useful when receiving on the periphery of a contest and then distributing it to the outside whereas Treloar and Crisp can win the ball and then burst away with it.

Hence I consider Crisp to be the perfect player to take midfield minutes when Treloar has a breather and then rotating across half back otherwise, rather than being a permanent fixture in defense.
 
The thing I have really liked about crisp at HB is his 1 on 1 and defensive skills. He rarely gets beaten in a contest. The first thing I look for in most defenders is if they can actually defend. I think he is now the closest thing we have had to Heath Shaw since Shaw left. He does make a few bad blues a game but Shaw(especially early in his career) made plenty as well. He seems to be getting better at the role each week. I was concerned his career was at the cross roads but I'm confident he can play alot of games in that role. IMO the best positional move Bucks has made in the last couple of years.

While I'm not trying to diminish your moment, Crisp at HB is no great surprise. He was playing there at the Bears unless I'm mistaken. Just needed players to pick up the slack in the midfield to release him and it's no coincidence that his return to HB has coincided with DeGoey claiming more midfield time and Wells returning to the park.

I was calling for Crisp to be moved to half back when he was playing for the bears. Not that its a contest. [emoji38]

He's not going to be top 5.

Pendles, Adams, Howe, Treloar, Grundy are pretty much the locks for top 5. Crisp will likely be top 10, but he won't go close to top 5.
