Reckon there's the fact that long-term signings make TPP calculations easier. Also, as the salary cap goes up, what looks like its expensive in year 1 looks cheap by year 4.

I'm a big fan of Crispy. A bit like Gavin Crosisca back in the day (on field only!!), he's just a very, very good footballer who quietly does a great job for the club week in, week out.

You build sides around players like him, and he couldn't be more reliable from a physical perspective... Makes absolute sense to lock him in with a 5 year deal.

True. And the club NEVER officially announced that Varcoe had gotten an extra year to take him through 2019.

I'd be surprised if they announced the extra year or two they've tacked on to Sidebottom and WHE.

Remember pre-Christmas there were rumours swirling that because Crisp wasn't training it meant he was unhappy at the club.

Yeah, it was laughable supposedly walked out then we see him on training vision watching the team.

I'm surprised by the 5 years but prefer that over 2 years he would have been receiving some big offers, wouldn't surprise me if he becomes an AA halfback in the next couple of years.

Interrupted pre season. Kicking was fine last year, only genuine half back that tries to break the lines constantly. He’ll bounce back.

I didnt want to offend you TD, i just feel like you bumped the thread during a sensitive time on the board and that Crisp didnt warrant the singleling out.

He wasn’t great, but i hindsight i think this loss has been an overeaction on the board.

We didn’t win the game but Geelong were top 8(two games from top 4) last year and had almost all there good players turn up Friday whilst Pies were quiet, yet Pies still looked better than them for most of the game and definitely lost it for themselves.

Been a very good player since arriving and a sensation since going to half back. The interrupted preseason obviously did him no favours and he looked off his game last night, I'd expect he and a few others to snap back into sharpness next week.

Crisp will be much better for the run and others said, he’s had a very limited preseason so will come in with a bit of rust on the boot
