Based on viewing 2 x youtube videos, the kids looks a little slow to me, and a bit short for KPP. A classic tweener.

However, beyond that he looks a dead set old fashioned type full forward with a good grab, hard body, aggression and serious natural footy smarts.

There's definitely some X factor about him but I think the lack of pace would be an issue.

Big fan, assuming none of swallow, bennell and day slip past GC then im currently hoping we select darling at pick 4, or if we avoid the wooden spoon which all of a sudden seems reasonably likely as we have 4 home games against freo, carlton, nm and brisbane then hoping he does turn out to be the slider of the draft like rich and butcher have been recently.
Is labelling himself a potential midfielder so could be a perfect rotation with lecca in the future, swapping between the forwardline and midfield. Havent been overly-impressed by any of our other potential draftees so atm darling is my frontrunner for west coast's draft selection. :thumbsu:

Jack kicked 3 in a quarter against me once, should of heard his arrogance.

Shit bloke :thumbsd:

Preformance in the U/18 championships mean S-All when it comes down to it, most clubs will already have a list of every player and where they would likely pick them up Franklin had a shocking U/18 and he still went top 5

Darling is destined for top 7, the potential for this bloke is massive, Reminds me a bit of Jon Brown, Classic Burly Forward type, Sticky Hands Ready built, Wont have to spend a year or two in the AFL to learn what to do, He knows how to play as a Forward. When your 190cm It might be a bit small but you dont really notice the lack of height in the contest which is a good indication that it wont really effect him.

Was playing WAFL at age 16/17, tells you something on how good this guy is.

He started WAFL as a 17 year old. Shown nothing at WAFL level and nothing in his final draft year. :thumbsd:

Yeah I hate tossers like this. They know they are good and let you know about it. If this is true shows he has that egotistical attitude I don't like which can have an affect on their footy career.

True, but everyone does talk him up to be this big, quick bloke who can take a great contested mark. Have to wait and see as I analyse his game more in the not to distant future.

Arrogance in many cases is a positive

Chris Mayne was one of the cockiest pricks in the Colts system before he was taken but he had a work rate to match.

He was also a very team orientated, hard working selfless footballer.

I dont rate Darling, not one bit.

He reminds me of a slightly more agile version of Adam Campbell.

Arrogance = Confidence = Self belief = Win.

Jealous people usually can't handle it, which is great, because it gives you a mental edge :D

That is true as I had this (Arrogance = Confidence = Self belief = Win.)

Can make you a bit of a tosser though and until you are brought back to earth by season / career ending injury or a real smashing by an opponent you can turn into a show bloater

Can also be Arrogance = Confidence = Egotistical Mr Awesome = Not giving 110% on the traning track = Loss

Exactly.
Just as Buddy and the Duck.

Didn't he kick 6 goals in his second WAFL game?

Yes he did , all in the second half against South Freo ( I think ) . Darling was a certain No 1 pick , but has struggled and others have caught him up . Should still be a dangerous player to have on your list .

Tom Scully is arrogant. But that hardly makes him a tosser.
He is incredibly dedicated towards his footy and doesn't touch the grog.
Will become a star because he has the work ethic, talent and motivation to become one.

Jack Darling I'm starting to fear is going down the Mitch Thorp path. Poor attitude and despite the talent won't make it. I see him really as being a big time hit and miss who could be either incredible or far from it.
I'm also getting the feeling that he is an early bloomer a bit like James Sellar who doesn't really have the same development down the road as a Jack Riewoldt for example.

Jack Darling for me is the most hit and miss player in this draft. Could be a star, or could be out of the league in 2-3 years depending on his attitude and application towards his footy. I'm not so sure his application is lacking, but there are certainly many questions at this early stage.

Right now I can't say I'm so high on him. Don't rate him a top 10 and certainly not a top 5 prospect like others do...
So those wishing for him to drop may just get their wish.

Wait...What?!

Kicking 6 goals as a 17 year old is hardly "shown Nothing" Go back and watch him play

I really hate it when people just look at stats then decide to write off young blokes as not elite talent. Also where is all the comments that he's another Mitch Thorp comming from? Have you actually met the bloke or something:confused:

Correction he's done nothing in the WAFL this year. His Champs was below expectations as well.

Lack of upside and quality performances this year hurt his chances of going early in the draft. He's had an injury setback earlier in the season and I've always maintained the fact he would need to string together excellent football in the WAFL for me to consider him as an early draft selection.

I also think leaving WA would be a good move for him.

Maybe dropping down the draft order will be a good thing for the kid, if he was drafted in the top 5 the expectations on the kid would be massive.

Lets just say he drops to ~8-20, then the expectations from the fans will be reduced. It may also provide a personal kick up the bum, so he has something to prove, telling recruiters that he should have been ranked in the top 5.

It will be an interesting side plot to the 2010 draft class.

West Perth have found some good form and likely to play finals .... therefore we will see Darling play in the WAFL final series , interesting for draft number he might go .

Darling has kicked 3 and 1 last two games and not named in best players in either game .

the best thing for jack will be if gold coast picks him up and he is one of a bunch of young kids so the pressure is taken off him

Obviously very different players, but reminds me a bit of John Butcher last year, who seemed to fall out of favor a bit after the Champs, only to come back up the rankings a bit prior to the draft.

I would still expect Darling to go inside the top 10, and probably top 8, at this stage.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of the year pans out between the final rounds and the testing.

How has Darlings form been over the last month?
