If you don’t want to be labelled a dinosaur stuck in the past, then stop being a dinosaur stuck in the past.

Derailing the thread? Lack of compromise?

What compromise? Is the shitty old thing fit for purpose? If no, Is it more viable to renovate or raze it and start afresh?

Ha, ha. Your real name isn't Bjelke-Petersen is it?

They are the only valid questions. There needs be no compromise. The club will do as it pleases. 95% of the members won’t give a s**t and we will move on. If the government comes to the party, we will be free of one eyesore that no one other than a handful of screeching minority dinosaurs care about.

& yes, if it could be shown the club would be better off abandoning its traditional home for the suburbs, why not? We haven’t played there for 55 years. Who gives a crap where they train? Had Craigieburn worked and we moved out there, would you have been any less happy last September?

On the idea of going to the members, quite frankly the more the club can get done without having to ask the members for permission the better.
People are by and large emotional creatures, and unable to look past that to make competent decisions.
The general feeling on the outrage squad side seems to be ‘keep it cause it’s old’ ‘who cares if it costs millions to bring up to standard for a short period, even though that money could be far better used within the club, it’s old’

This is the reason why our professional footy club, operating in a professional environment need to bypass the members wherever possible. The board quite honestly should be trying to chip away at the constitution wherever possible to get memberships closer to season tickets than full voting memberships.

The only question here should be, can the stand be replaced by something that is more financially viable and more fit to purpose for a modern day AFL franchise. If the answer is yes, raze the damn thing and move on.

The ‘It’s old’ idiot squad - The scourge of modern day cities trying to modernise. Move on people. New is always better

We aren’t talking about a thousands year old marvel of humanity.
Not true at all...people need to hear the facts first and even the debate once they have heard the arguments for and against...then they can make their minds up as to what needs to be done...
Can do both! Agree to change and still be pissed off about it!

Appears a bit more work has gone into this with 2 options put forward and the preferred one costing in excess of $60m. The above image appears to show what the Jack Dyer stand end could look like with the redevelopment.

If we do redevelop the ground I'd like to see them do something similar to what happened down at Werribee. They rebuilt their club rooms with new seating along the wing and moved the old stand around to the pocket behind the goals. I'd love to see the Jack Dyer Stand moved across to the area behind the goals where Richmond members could then sit and watch the VFL games from behind the goals if they so choose. They could then redevelop the area next to the existing building, to house proper change rooms which would house the womens teams for training purposes but then accommodate opposition teams for VFL/AFLW/VFLW games instead of portable sheds around the side of the stand where they then have to walk through half the crowd.

Can we all agree that the sightlines from the stand is actually very low in quality, the efforts to maintain the stand have introduced a pretty unsightly concrete forecourt, the coaching boxes are not in a great position either

I don't know if this is legit or a troll, but heritage is massively important in the social fabric and story of our club, game, and city.

New is not always better. Especially when nowadays we can do some phenomenal things architecturally that maintain heritage while also modernising facilities.

The lawn tennis tradition and history is why Wimbledon is the greatest tournament.
There are other slams no doubt but nothing compares to it.
Yes, they expanded seating capacity but did not demolish historic stands.
The same with The Ashes.
The greatest cricket rivalry and sports tradition for Australia and England.
