should we go for someone who makes an impact straight away or do we go for jack who will take 3-4 years before he helps the blues?

You're saying Watts used his size to bully underaged defenders? He was a twig. Perhaps you mean Patton or Boyd?

Correct me if I’m wrong but Watts was mainly playing school footy whereas JL has played more in the SANFL against bigger bodies?

Either way I agree, you can never be confident in a key forward making it, although he does look like he has the best skill set of any u18 tall forward for a while.

Lukosius is an enormous talent a 17 year old , playing the game the way he does one can only drool to think in 2 to years’ time what he'll be able to achieve.
Rankine would be the only distraction from choosing Jack at pick I, both are exceptional talents, my more conservative choices are Bailey Smith or Sam Walsh.

Initially I felt that the Blues should select Lukosius.

I changed my mind. Walsh is a quality person who is strong inside and will help sooner. You don't have the go home factor and Geelong Falcons seem to produce stars. Country lads seem to be more resilient and loyal.

KM is of the opinion that Lukosius is very close to if not the best field kick in the whole draft, pretty exceptional trait for a key position player.

If the Blues don't take him they could end up with some serious egg on their face.

Imagine giving up a player and two high picks for pick 1 in this loaded draft to bring Lukosious to your non-SA club only to have him 2-3 years later turn around and say “homesick.. sorry.. can i please be traded home”.. you wouldnt get what you originally paid back.
And both SA clubs won't have early PSD picks to threaten.

yeah but you know how it works..if a player says I am leaving and only want to go to 1 particular club then a deal gets done. On the off chance it doesn't and the player threatens the draft, they can easily tell rival clubs they will only sign a 1 year deal if picked up and then will leave. And a player can nominate for the main draft - it does not have to be the PSD - meaning clubs will be even more reluctant to give up a high pick on a guy that does not want to be there. If players are being empowered, then it is not out of the realms of possibility that they are letting clubs know before they are drafted of their future intentions

Jack will be our 3rd tall next year. Already has the ability, pace and elite skills. Will only get better in subsequent years

Can't wait to see that happen , PSD areare pre non-active these day , need a nice bump .

Not in the vision I have seen. IMO is a good field kick for his size and a very good set shot. I will be interested to see how he goes in the SANFL finals and end of year u18 game before going overboard in my assessment. KM has made an outlandish statement but hey if it drives up his price then its all good.

Which ever player they select wont be a Richard Tambling type.

My preference is they select the best available and let clubs come calling if they want pick 1.

Get the kid who you think is the best player and fits in with your overall list strategy. Jack is merely one player in a group of 3-4 for that title.

That’s exactly right. As good as Walsh is, every year there is another one of him. Last year there was Cerra and Dow, McCluggage and Taranto the year before and Parish and Mills (albeit an academy player) the year before that. Show me another Luko or Rankine.
Exactly. That's why Brisbane took Raynor last year, he's one of a kind.

Unfortunately if the crows want to get a top 5 pick they are going to get screwed over. Plus I can't see Brisbane being nice after what you did to them last year with Charlie.
I doubt Brisbane feel ripped off for Charlie. Looked superb and worth what they paid for him until injured. Have to remember he was contracted to Crows so they were always going to need to pay a bit more.

Very good player the Hoff but not a "generational" player you would have to agree.

It’s not a thread about Westhoff but his problem has been consistency, not talent.

Perhaps not generational no, though that sounds more like a buzz word to me than having any real substance, but if Westhoff had played more years like this year throughout his career he would have All-Australians and best and fairests to his name, I have no doubt.

We made off like bandits last year with the Cameron trade. Brisbane have every right to remind us of that if we are sitting across the table asking for pick 3/4. This draft more than any before if you want a top 5 pick you're gonna have to pay for it.

If Brisbane's pick could be certain to land Rankine I'd trade our first two picks for it/him.

What Gold Coast do with pick 3 will dictate a lot. They don't need more kids who may get homesick, they will want to turn it into a very good player plus a top 10 pick which puts Swans into the frame with Lloyd being courted by Gold Coast for much bigger $ than Swans have on the table.

I am seeing GC Eagles first round pick go to Llyod . As for pick 3 depend on where Sydney end up on the ladder.
