yepA version of Westhoff that was consistent across his entire career would be a hell of a player.

If trading picks in the draft is introduced, it could be that Carlton drafts him with 1, and when it gets to pick 8 and Adelaide see rankine gone, they throw everything they have to trade us for him.
At that stage sos could collect 4 top 20 picks off Reid.

Petracca was rated #1 all year every week in 2014 and the Saints picked McCartin.I think Luko is coming to Carlton. It's like saying Rayner wasn't going number 1. Luko could be a superstar and Carlton need to take a risk.
It’s not a thread about Westhoff but his problem has been consistency, not talent.
Perhaps not generational no, though that sounds more like a buzz word to me than having any real substance, but if Westhoff had played more years like this year throughout his career he would have All-Australians and best and fairests to his name, I have no doubt.
CorrectYou can trade picks but I am not sure you can draft a player and then try and trade that player

McCluggage was rated #1 all year every week in 2016 and the Bombers picked McGrath. GWS even took Taranto ahead of him.
2016 was an open field for most of the season and Petracca came from well back through the course of 2014.Petracca was rated #1 all year every week in 2014 and the Saints picked McCartin.

So? He was rated the best player of that draft by just about everyone who follows the U18s. Who cares if he came from "well back"?2016 was an open field for most of the season and Petracca came from well back through the course of 2014.

I thought all the papers were linking Walsh to Carlton at #1? Dangerfield also said on radio if Carlton don't take him at #1, they'd regret it.
Carlton's key-forward stocks are pretty good, and while Lukosius would be a big addition to any team, I can see them opting for the midfielder because that's their big problem area right now.
That leaves Lukosius to Gold Coast. Adelaide aren't trading their way up to the top 3 picks unless there's a deal involving a good player going to the Gold Coast, which as it stands, is highly unlikely. Clarkson tried to flog Breust and Sicily among others to them, and none of them wanted to go. In the miracle chance say, a Mitch McGovern is happy to go there on big money, Adelaide will get their top 3 pick and one of Lukosius or Rankine.
Not a chance in hell. Gold Coast want quality AFL-ready players more than anything now, especially more than 2019 picks. They sold the farm for Weller for that very reason.Carlton would need to listen to what may be around.
Lukosius would be a great get, but I see that Carlton may prefer the local lads.
If Lukosius is seen to be the marquee player GC want, they'd have to pay and pay now.
I may well be wrong but I don't think GC would want one of the Kings as much as they'd want Lukosius, as Lukosius would add immediate value to the club and GC have Wright already and may have to back him in to become the forward they need, post Lynch.
Maybe (I said maybe) a trade involving Carltons 2018 #1 and 2019 first can be traded for GC's 2018 #2 & #3 (Lynch compo)
GC get the marquee player of the draft, along with a possible #1 in 2019, whilst Carlton take Walsh & MKing at the draft with #2 & #3.
It's all so early though as who really knows who will have the #1 yet.
I doubt Brisbane feel ripped off for Charlie. Looked superb and worth what they paid for him until injured. Have to remember he was contracted to Crows so they were always going to need to pay a bit more.

Thank youWalsh please
