Player Watch Jack Lukosius

I'm actually excited about Lukosius.

I think he is a very good signing, I'm not too happy about the cost, but the player and the style of the player are exactly what we need.

Him and Georgiades running riot with Rioli out the back and our superstar midfielders flooding past them gives me the heebees!

How did pack busting go for Dixon? He simply got held and we didn't get the free or we gave away a free, players like Georgiades and Lukosius take the 'lottery' out of the attack.

The real test will come when we come up against top 4 teams when the heat is on (much like our entire team).

It's one thing to be able to lead up into space but the best teams in the biggest games don't give you that space and he needs to stillbe able to impact.

Having a foot he actually has sensations in is already an upgrade on Dixon.

Ollie Lord becomes crucial for us next year. If he can become the break glass in case of emergency down the line option who can snag a contested mark and goal or two per game and bring the ball to ground rather than getting outmarked when he's not snagging the mark himself, that will free up Georgiades and Lukosius to play their natural leading games. Neither Georgie or Luko (or Finlayson or Marshall, for that matter) can play that role. Ratugolea can in theory, but in practice he sucks at it. Lord is the only bloke on our list who might be able to do it effectively.

Lukosius needs space in which to do his best work. From the TV it looked like there wasn't much space in Mt Barker. There is on the MCG which I think will suit him.

He is at an age and has played the right number of games to really come into his own.

PS Seen something that suggests Mt Barker has identical dimensions to the MCG- can that be right?

The oval at Summit Sport and Recreation Park in Mt Barker, South Australia is 160 meters long and 141 meters wide

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is 160 meters long and 141 meters wide.

Yep Barker is huge.

My son played there in u14s using the full oval and it reminded me of when we used to use the full oval for mini league as kids.

About half a season. He emerged quickly after Tredrea got his last significant injury.
I don't remember how long, I will take your word for it.

He was going through the motions against the Crows last week. Played with a lot more intensity today. Showed enough today to make me think if we play to his strengths he’ll be up there amongst our top goal kickers

He's just another Todd Marshall. That was the exact sort of low pressure game on a nice fast deck that would normally see Marshall have a day out. He's a nice player but don't expect that every week or you'll be disappointed.
He's mobile it's far better than Dixon huffing and puffing around on the spot and achieving three fifths of fukc all.

This seems really reductive.. and dismissive of a pretty handy game with some superb skills on show. You'd be lucky if there are 5 players in the league who can hit that 50m dart to Rioli.

How about we give the guy some credit and not barrack against the bloke before he has played a game for the club?

That is just TOTAL bullshite!

You fools should be all madly washing the urine out of your trousers after that showing by him today!

He showed he can hold a mark up the ground and has a great leg delivering I50. Marshall and Dixon both struggled to clunk a mark at the best of times and it broke the link up play everytime. Poor opponent yes, but nice to see what they're aiming for.

He's kicked 5 goals in a game against Geelong in each of the last 2 seasons. I don't think anyone at Port is even close to that, so if he manages that he's won me over. ;)
Luko made me sit up and take notice when he turned a game against the tingles with some enormous goals a few seasons back.

From memory the kick that iced that game was a set shot late in the final qtr from well outside the 50 metre zone that cleared the goal line by plenty.

Yes up in Darwin, took the crows to the cleaners for 5 goals.

There seems to be a bit of self-propelling mythology here that he only kicks goals against poor sides, but he has 2 bags of 5 against Geelong, 5 against Adelaide which decided a game where they were in the 8 and everyone was talking finals for them, and 5 against the Bulldogs which decided a game where they were in the 8.

I liked his game yesterday, kicked a superb goal into a fluky breeze that defeated a few, and I think it was him again who kicked the ball 60m into the breeze to gift a goal to Rioli (which he he made hard work of). Worked well up the ground and competed hard at ground level.
