It's okay. He's only contracted on huge coin till the end of 2030.
He isn't. He only had 2 years at 1 million per year I believe on his contract at Suns due to back ending it, so Port have taken the contract on but smoothed it out over the entire contract. So it's not actually that big. I doubt it's 2 million over 5 years but it's definitely not 1 million per season for 5 years. Possibly been dropped to 600 or 700 per season for 5 years. or close to it. Still high but not as high as people assume.

I think he'll still be reasonably handy this is possibly the worst situation/season to come in as new recruit not to mention missing a huge chunk through injury. It will also depend on Josh using him to his strengths & a few teaspoons of cement.

You can't train the eye of the tiger, you've either got it or you don't. He will never be any sort of competitor or leader, the best we can hope for is that we can develop a functioning forward line that can enable someone like him to play an icing on the cake third tall type role and kick his 30 goals.

For a million bucks a year.

No he's not that type but you can demand a basic level of commitment to a contest or you don't play it's pretty simple.

More than that, he basically told the whole world that Luko ain't it and we still coughed up a Kings ransom for him

Yeah agree.

I actually think the decision to go after him is fine. Our kf stocks would be looking very scary if we didn’t have him on our list and he complements Mitch well I think

The problem is the situation and what we paid for him and how it’s emblematic of the problems at the club. It’s not that we aren’t even ruthless, we can’t even expect close to that, it’s that we’re not even run with the goal of putting ourselves in the best position to win. We’re here to be nice guys, not rock the boat. Just get those Sa market dollars so the VFL and pay some bloated fat cats in the boys club and keep umpteen excess to needs vic clubs alive.

This isn’t even the first time Gold Coast, a team that is regularly used as a doormat by other clubs to the point it’s a running joke, has dropped a kf, publicly ridiculed him , insinuated or outright stated he has no future at the club then put him up for trade , then played hardball with us where we fold at trade time.

Lol

Desperate clubs make bad decisions , we chase the next magic bean, rather then face a partial rebuild. Clubs can smell our desperation and know we will overpay
But yet the club everyone thinks is the best thing since sliced bread this year offered Luko more money than we did.

You haven't gotten all your facts right on this one.

He's getting paid (under but) close to 1M per season over the duration of his contract at Port. The Crows were offering a fair bit more.

1 mil isnt the issue as the new cba means even the average players will be getting 700k. + , we gambled on making the eight so we have overpaid draft wise.

Yeah I'm neither here nor there on the salary. Port have always been able to manage the cap so I'm not concerned any contract is going to hold them up from keeping their top players.

It's an overpay, but it's not a drastic overpay given the quality of this draft class is abysmal.

They'll have around pick 12 in the draft, which in terms of talent, will be around what pick 30 was last year.

I won't be surprised if Port actually trade all of their picks in this draft for selections in future drafts to stockpile points.

I’m not opposed to that. 2025 draft does not give me any excitement. Only question what does Port even do on Night 2 of the draft since they do have to use three mandatory selections.

Draft Rome Burgoyne? A project ruck? Mature ager?

Burgoyne, Liddy and Ram can make the 3 compulsory selections

Unsure on specific numbers but was more pointing out that he isn't on this huge coin and was smoothed over a longer duration instead of the big back ended contract at suns. Unless the back end contract at suns was way higher?

The crows offer was more lucrative, i guess we can blame rozee being the reason he picked port😂

Yeah, as TeeKray said, it seems the best we are hoping for is star 3rd forward or he gets put back to CHB and plays well down there.

Hopefully Carr can get the most out of him.

It was fairly high (above 1.5M I think but I'm guessing. I was told the number last year but it's slipped my mind for now), but he's still on really, really good money here - close to 1M per year over the duration of his contract.

Still good coin considering he hasn't had a good year. Touch wood he fires next season though. has potential to. 1 million per year for 5 might sound high but probably about right now days with current salary cap and figures.

Hopefully Josh unleashes the wing position next year.

We've been crying out for it for a long time.
Feels like a bit of a waste if he got stuck playing as a key forward considering there are legit question marks over his competitiveness and work-rate once the ball hits the ground. He doesn't have that presence like Georgiades or even Marshall; 2022.

Keep him roaming around the forward half of the ground and give him the licence to roost the ball when in range.
